COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Équinoxe du Printemps (French for "spring equinox") is the quintessential marriage of two great traditions: beer brewing in Scotland, and maple syrup production in Quebec. At the first draught, the mouth is overcome by woody, malty flavours, sustained by a discrete touch of sweetness. The aftertaste brings about the flavours of maple, which are sufficiently present to be appreciated, but never overwhelming the typical flavours of a Scotch Ale.

Equinoxe du printemps is brewed only once a year in January. It is aged for two months in order to attain a perfect balance in taste. Then, it is sold starting March 21st, until stocks last.

Modest head that dies to a thin film--leaves spotty lace that slides down the glass. The color is light brown and very cloudy. Sugary malt aroma; the maple syrup really shows up here. Sweet crystal malt and maple syrup flavor. Enough hop to provide interest and keep the Scotch Ale true to form. There’s a touch of smokiness and molasses. Rich body as expected. I wouldn’t describe this as a quaffing beer, but like others from Dieu du Ciel, it is complex and interesting.

Aroma: lots of maple and wood; interesting; Appearance: dark amber with thin white head that dissipates fairly quickly; Taste: syrupy, malty, woody, boozy -- very complex; Palate: medium-heavy body with long, woody-sweet finish; Overall: quite good; different than other scotch ales I’ve had, but still delicious.

Dark brown. Maple sweetness. Very oaky. A lot going on here. Too woody for me.

11.5 oz. bottled Jan 2015. Pours clear mahogany with a thin disc of beady foam. Nose is earthy maple syrup and whiskey. Tastes of earthy toffee, plum, maple and pear with touches of cocoa and spicy dry grass. Medium body has medium-high carbonation that’s a bit much. Leans to the malty side per the style but never sticky or cloying. A little boozy even with almost a year and a half in the bottle.
