Équinoxe du Printemps (French for "spring equinox") is the quintessential marriage of two great traditions: beer brewing in Scotland, and maple syrup production in Quebec. At the first draught, the mouth is overcome by woody, malty flavours, sustained by a discrete touch of sweetness. The aftertaste brings about the flavours of maple, which are sufficiently present to be appreciated, but never overwhelming the typical flavours of a Scotch Ale.

Equinoxe du printemps is brewed only once a year in January. It is aged for two months in order to attain a perfect balance in taste. Then, it is sold starting March 21st, until stocks last.

Dark brown. Maple sweetness. Very oaky. A lot going on here. Too woody for me.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2016 Brown pour, good sized offwhite head. Aroma of dried fruits, molasses, nut, a bit of maple syrup. Dried fruit and wood up front, nut, caramel, maple, roasted malt, dark bread. Medium body, fairly sweet and a bit boozy in the finish. The 9% does hit you eventually.

11.5 oz. bottled Jan 2015. Pours clear mahogany with a thin disc of beady foam. Nose is earthy maple syrup and whiskey. Tastes of earthy toffee, plum, maple and pear with touches of cocoa and spicy dry grass. Medium body has medium-high carbonation that’s a bit much. Leans to the malty side per the style but never sticky or cloying. A little boozy even with almost a year and a half in the bottle.
