bartlebier (1718) - Belchum im Breisgau, GERMANY - SEP 16, 2014
355ml bottle from 5e Mondial de la Bière, Mulhouse. Shy green tropical fruit skin, star fruit and berries along with that near-vegetable resin of kumquat, joining some palt malts in aroma - not overwhelming. Taste is very resinous on a thinnish and sesionable palate: piney hops tend to overpower the unripe-fruit and green citrus rind style bitterness of the kumquat, but give it an interesting edge. THin pale malt base, hard to fathom the +7%. Lingering drying mouthfeel, green and piney hoppiness. Expected this to be a bit juicier going by concept and label.

Draft, Snallygaster. Medium white head atop hazy apple juice body. Aroma is moderately sweet, kumquat, some orange. Taste is moderately sweet, kumquat, grapefruit, light bread. Medium-full body, light stickiness.

Draft. Poured a clear copper color with an average to large white frothy head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex and earthy yeast aroma. Medium to abundant body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where exceeded.

Bottle. Cloudy orange pour with a thick, soapy white head. Sweet aroma, hoppy with lots of tropical fruit. Flavour is fairly bitter with sweet tropical fruits underneath, full mouthfeel and finishes dry and bitter. Quite a nice IPA!

OOKPIKABLE (86) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 5, 2014
Pours golden. Aroma of kumquat and piney hops. Tastes of the same. Not sure the kumquat and ipa hops go well together, but each is nice on its own, and the overall result is tasty.

Bottle, thanks Colin. Hazy golden dark yellow, really frothy white head. Light fruity slightly spicy aroma - tropical, some pine as well. Taste - more tropical fruit, aggressive yet balanced bitterness, and a nice mix of malt sweetness as well. Alcohol is present and assertive. Warming and refreshing. A solid IPA.

(On cask at the DDC tap takeover @ barVolo, Aug 23 2014) Pours orange gold, hazy with a big dense white cask head and wall of lace. Aroma has lots of fresh crushed mint, citrus zest notes that seem like kumquat, sweet pale malt and light caramel. On the palate, lots of orange/kumquat/grapefruit zest and orange juice, light herbal minty notes, sweetish pale malt. On the finish, moderately bitter, kumquat and lime zest, herbs, faintly tinny. Mouthfeel fairly light and smooth with soft cask carb. My notes say "delish" and that about sums it up. Just a lovely cask IPA, super super drinkable and flavourful (though slightly outclassed by the cask Moralite w/Centennial). Dunno what this beer is like on tap/bottle but would be happy to not find out and stick with this version!

Draft at Edmunds Oast. Cloudy golden pour with a bubbly white head. Slightly sweet, fleshy tropical fruit aroma with some lingering pale maltiness. Flavor is hinting at the same profile with a moderate bitter finish. Not too shabby.

4oz pour at Churchkey DC pours a clear gold with some soapy, white head. Nose is floral, herbal, honey, lemon tea. Flavor is quite tannic, lemony, herbs, mild lavender. Finishes thin and tannic. So so, a bit to "Euro" for me.
