3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
341 mL bottle from Dépanneur Simon Anthony in Montréal, served in a snifter. Pours clear copper with a small, creamy white head. The head quickly fades but leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are aromas of caramel, grass, flowers and pine. The flavour begins moderately bitter and becomes more so. There is a touch of malty sweetness at the beginning, but this quickly dissipates towards a long, dry hoppy bitter finish. On the palate, it is medium-full in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a decent beer, but not as interesting as I had expected. There is not much in the way of hemp flavour or aroma, but the bitter hoppy finish is beautiful. The caramel malts were also a delight. 2010-09-27

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught, 5% at the brewpub. Mild malty aroma. Almost clear deep amber colour. Small creamy tan head. The flavour starts off nutty, turning creamy and finishing with a mild, flowery aroma hop note and some vanilla. Mild carbonation.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
In a pint glass. Pours copper, small white-ish head, fades rather fast --- but the lace remains. Quite a strong caramel aroma, with some earthy and leaves hints. Malt aroma is thin. Taste is quite bitter, though I can’t really tell whether it’s the hops or the hemp. Either way, the bitterness falls somewhere between resin and grassy. Caramelized, with some hints of toast. For one, I think this one is needlessly bitter, especially on the finish : it’s a pretty straightforward beer, after all -- in other words, not the most "balanced" product, and it’s not like you can feel you’re really drinking something special as far as speciality "herbs" are concerned.

Bière rousse de 5.5% d’alcool, très mousseuse, ressemble beaucoup à une IPA, houblon intense, bon nez.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
341ml bottle. Pours a hazy rusted colour with eggshell head that laces out quickly, but it sticks around. The nose is....different. There’s some malt upfront but this big underlying thing with a little sweetness I can’t pout a name to underneath. Sort of bland on the palate with a little sweetness and almost no finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours copper-caramel color with very little head and cloudy appearance. Aroma is initially fresh and intriguing - earthy, like a moss-covered coastal forest after a fresh rainfall, caramel, nuts and light grassy hops. Flavor is earthy, sweet hints of dried berries and dark fruits, undertones of bitter fruit pits and spices in the finish. Body is smooth and velvety, like a cask-conditioned ESB. This is a very smooth-drinking ale that I believe to be under-rated. I would buy it again.

3.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Slightly unclear medium dark red with a persistent dense white head that has a brown-yellow tinge. Red-gold highlights. Fruit and cherry and berry alefruit aroma recalls ESB. Nose has zingy citrus and I like it. Taste those cherries and fruits, the lemon tang, plus a centering note of excellent yet subtle british style hop. Some caramel on the finish leaks in as well. The feel is enveloping, the fruit flavors are engaging, but it is the aroma that keeps me re-examining this glass of DDC excellence.
