The Alt is a classic German ale from the Düsseldorf region. It has dark copper colours which can be reminiscent of English Pale Ales. By using a different type of yeast, the aromas are less fruity and more neutral than a pale ale. The use of different types of malt also gives the beer a less caramel flavour than the English ales. To taste, the beer is mildly bitter and has fresh cereal flavours.

This beer to me has a flavor that is good to the immediate taste and also it leaves a good after feeling in your mouth.

on tap at DDC. Crap this is good altbier. Pours a medium to deep copper in the .5 liter- thinlasting head and nice lace. Aroma is slightly roasty- good nutty malt, caramel swetness, toasty and dark bready malts with a good herbal and slight green hop character. Flavor is very clean0 great caramel malt, vienna toasted malts, bready, witha a great hoppey flavor and clean hoppy bitterness. This stuff was awesome!

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2006 Brownish color, medium tan head. Toffee nose. Generously malted with caramelized and lightly smoked malts. Some wooden touch too. I’m a hop-head but the malts taste really good in this one. Rich and round body. Very good beer. To me the smoked and wooden touches trigger a sitting-around-a-campfire feeling. No kidding, it really does. I tried to light the table at the brewpub but they wouldn’t let me. Stuck-ups.

[on tap at the brewpub] Dark brown color, darker than other Altbiers I’ve seen. Aroma of malt, yeast, some slight nuttiness. Sweet malty/nutty flavor, mild hop finish. A great Altbier, no question about it.

is an excellent example of an alt beer. A wonderful dark amber color. Clear, with a white head which had long dissapated since this was the 4th of 6 from my ~8 Oz sampler. Sweet breads and nuts in the aroma. Has a balance between sweetness and sour with some nuts coming through. A nice dose of bitterness rounds out this winner. To bad Dorwart is not here to enjoy this one with me.

On tap at the brewpub. Very pretty clear copper pour with thin white head. Aroma is rich and toasty, tons of beautiful malt notes, great toasted bread aroma, light underlying caramel, just a hint of black pepper, the aroma carried me right back to Düsseldorf for a second. Taste is quite good as well, smooth rounded malty bitterness, mellow toasted notes. Palate is light-med bodied and quite satisfying. Tasty stuff.

Reddish amber. Fresh hops and wet grass aroma. A bit of caramel, nice malt character well balanced by hop bitterness.

draught@brewpub - quite clear reddish beer with a long lasting fine beige head; nice lacework; subtle aromatic hoppiness with notes of earth; creamy palate; medium-bodied; a late earthy bitterness; very long aftertaste with lingering hoppy tones and earthy notes
