On tap at the brewpub, regular CO2 and aged 1 year versions. Nice dark pour, almost pitch black with a bit of off white foam. Aroma of burnt toast, a bit of fresh coffee, very roasty. Taste is super well balanced. The roasted aspect gives the beer a very enjoyable bitterness and the malt flavors do not overpower this flavor. Palate is a bit thin for the style but not in a negative way, as it contributes to give the beer a dry and enjoyable finish. A great imperial stout that I could drink all day.

Very nice IS. On tap. Pitch black, lots of chocolate notes, malty, burnt and smokey (litlle) taste. Not to sweet, just enough to lessen the potential alcohol burn. Superb.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The aroma is whiskey, roasty, vanilla. The appearance is a nice dark brown, tan head. The flavor is whiskey, chocolate, roasty, slightly different than the aroma. The finish is roasty/bitter, booze warming. Medium/thick in body. Nicely done.

Draught at Dieu du Ciel brewpub. Pours black with a lasting creamy tan head. Beautiful lacing on the glass. Top notch for looks. Slightly mild, roasty aroma, a bit sweet, along with some coffee, chocolate and light leafy hops. Flavour’s roasty, creamy and lactic along with chocolate, coffee, quite a lot of alcohol and a roasty, boozy, bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Very good but a little too boozy for my liking.

Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Poured a rich black with a very thin beige swirl. Nose was lots of roasted malts, coffee, cocolate. Very rich coffee flavor ,molasses, vanilla and a load of hops. It’s sweet and bitter, big and complex with some fine carbonation. He barrel flavor is there, but not overpowering. This has a bit of warmth to it and finishes extremly bitter.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Dieu du Ciel
Appearance : Deep black with small creamy brown head. Nice lacing.
Aroma : Lots of chocolate with resinous and oily hops. Hints of red fruits. Hints of smoke.
Taste : Very hot and quite bitter. Lots of roasted malts with lots of alcohol. Finish is quite bitter with hops and roasted malts. Lot of alcohol on the finish too. Hints of smoke
Overall : Nose is better than taste. Way too much alcohol. The alcohol was taking too much place and masking all the rest. I suspect something was wrong with this batch because I’ve had 10+% abv where the alcohol was MUCH less noticable. Very imposing bitterness.

Dark one with a brown head. The vanilla smell is very strong but light aromas of hazelnuts are detectable.Holala, intense tastes of vanilla, roast almonds and nuts are dancing on my tongue. One of the best Imperial Stout ever. Dieu du Ciel encore BRAVO.
