The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

ABV initially 8.5%, changed in late 2012 to 9%.

From tap at Griffon Gastropub, Niagara Falls. Pours a lovely pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma has licorice, coffee, dark dry chocolate, light vanilla, roasted malts. Taste is roasty dry, light sweetness, rather bitter finish. Slight salty/soy. Lots of coffee. Medium full body and an average carbonation.

bottle @ Keg Liquors / Clarksville IN --- Aroma of malt, burlap, and light caramel chocolate. Opaque black with a rocky brown head that remains until the end, lace cobwebs. Taste is strong roasted malt and burlap with light fizz, moving to dark chocolate and light bittering in a long finish. Big, earthy, lots of roasted malt. And the description is incorrect - there is definite alcohol at the end.

12oz bottle pours a thick black color without much of a head. Smooth maltiness, some roasted flavors. Nice hop profile to balance.

almost black colour, half inch, creamy brown head; aroma of roasted nuts, some herbal notes, dark chocolate, hints of smoked cheese and some coffee, too; taste of roasted nuts, some herbal liqueur, smokey and some syrupy notes; nothing exaggerated, still not a usual imperial stout; very enjoyable

(341ml bottle from Systembolaget) Pours pitch black with a short, fine, medium-tan head. Aroma is powerfully roasty, lots of toasted malts with smoke and ash, cocoa, a bit of coffee grinds, dark rye bread, anise, dark fruit lurking behind. Flavour a bit sweeter than the nose with dark caramel malts, sugared coffee, dark bittersweet chocolate, toasted and burnt malts, slight fig. Finish has burnt malt, tar, light anise, lingering caramel sweetness behind but quite bitter overall from roast that persists long into the finish. Quite full mouth feel with smooth creamy carb and no alcohol heat. A very nice roast-driven adjunct free stout. Super sipper.

Bottle from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: deep dark black beer with no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: coffee domination with mocha chocolate hit. Roasted malt and caramel notes. Taste: full body with coffee exposition and mocha. Good attenuation and quiet drinkable. Aftertaste: coffee and dry coffee, mocha.

Bottle @ home, from Systembolaget. Jet black pour with a tan head. Tons of roast here, sweet malts, liquorice, some booze, prunes and some light ash. Solid!
