The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

ABV initially 8.5%, changed in late 2012 to 9%.

Pours very dark, nearly pitch black. Brown head. Initial aroma on pouring gave me the impression of molasses. First impressions are excellent with big flavours of chocolate, molasses, and awesome. This is an excellent stout and would drink again, wish I had a bigger bottle right now.

On tap @EurHop (Rome). Pours deep black with a medium creamy cappuccino foam. Aroma is roasted malts, dark chocolate, mocha, alcol. Flavour is impressive at first but a bit messy, some sweetness, then a bitter end, more chocolate than I expected, and alcol again. High body, low carbonation. Overall it’ a good beer, but not as great as I expected.

With Z, pours a beautiful pitch black color with a wispy light large java head. Nose is deep malt, chocolate and dark roasted espresso. Taste is black licorice, rich malt and dark fruits. well balanced, smooth and velvety. Finishes on the same tasting notes, an absolute splendid Imperial Stout. Quaff Score 9 / 10

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a brown head and aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and alcohol. Taste is strong, nice roasted malt and burnt notes with black liquorice, chocolate, and dark fruits into the warming finish.

Dark black with a very shy moka head. Strong coffee, roasted malt, molasse, vanilla and hint of alcohol. Very well balanced, nice bitterness, long coffee aftertaste. Rich, creamy, perfect carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2014 Bottle from Halles St-Jean... : aroma: caramel, roasty coffee, ash and caramel. App: opaque black with tiny frothy brown head. Taste and palate: medium sweetness, full body, creamy, ok carbonation with medium to high long bitter finish. Overall: I like the fact that you don?t feel its high ABV but think it?s too bitter for the style. After a few sip, bitterness is less present (or my palate is used to it) which helps appreciate its complexity. Will drink it again
