Dark black with a very shy moka head. Strong coffee, roasted malt, molasse, vanilla and hint of alcohol. Very well balanced, nice bitterness, long coffee aftertaste. Rich, creamy, perfect carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2014 Bottle from Halles St-Jean... : aroma: caramel, roasty coffee, ash and caramel. App: opaque black with tiny frothy brown head. Taste and palate: medium sweetness, full body, creamy, ok carbonation with medium to high long bitter finish. Overall: I like the fact that you don?t feel its high ABV but think it?s too bitter for the style. After a few sip, bitterness is less present (or my palate is used to it) which helps appreciate its complexity. Will drink it again

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

Pours pitched black big creamy brown head. Aroma is low but it has bitter chocolate, some coffee and booze. Flavor has lots of bitter chocolate, coffee, some light green pepper flavor. The beer is nicely balanced. Medium body, medium carbonation. Lots going on in this beer, thereís some booze on the finish. Pretty nice, but I like Peche Mortel better.

UPDATED: APR 20, 2015 Good gravy this stuff is good. Pour is jet black with a creamy dark brown cap that hangs around. Nose is tons of dark chocolate/cocoa and coffee, with some nutty/roasted grain/caramel sweetness there too. Taste is even better. Huge cocoa taste, velvety sweet caramel, molasses, cherries, vanilla, hazelnuts, with a big, lingering bitter cocoa/coffee finish. Thereís just a hint of alcohol warmth, but far less than youíd expect. Mouthfeel is silky smooth, heavy, syrupy, but nicely carbonated so itís not overwhelming. Overall itís more bitter than a typical IS, but this just serves to mask the alcohol, and to my taste the heavy bitterness is balanced perfectly with the rich heavy malt. This stuff is worth all the superlatives I can throw at it.

From tap at BierCarb, Barcelona. Black color with small dark beige head. Aroma is roasted malty, coffee, light chocolate and hazelnuts. Taste is sweet and light bitter. Medium to light body, oily, soft carbonation. I liked it more the first time I tried it at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012.

I didnít think many 100% beers would be under the radar for me, but this one was. Very comparable to Rasputin in that itís a great classic RIS that is just a little bit over-hopped (in a good way). This was a delicious treat and Iíll be keeping an eye out for more. Not hot at all, but drinks bigger than itís abv.

Tap. Pours a thick pitch black with a really nice on-finger chestnut head. Aroma is surprisingly packed with berries! Then after some sniffs it reveals dark chocolate, roasted coffee, caramel and dark dried fruits, dates especially. Taste is again very fruity fresh berries among loads of caramel. Sweet but balanced by a roasty dark chocolate bitterness. Smooth mouthful and really rich and have this kind of fruity berrinness thatís goes really well
with the dense beer. Dieu de Ciel certainly make some high end and delicate beers!
