The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

ABV initially 8.5%, changed in late 2012 to 9%.

Bottle from State Line. Pours thick and black, and I will save the "that’s what she said" joke. A small brown head that laces well is also apparent. Nose is an intense medley of hazelnut, cacao, vanilla, graham cracker, dark malt, prune. Tastes rich, very complex, very thick, and very smooth. There is charred dark malt coffee oil, and dark choc up front, with mid-palate lactic oats, vanilla, nuts, and blackberry. Some finishing hops and more blackberry and mild tartness round things out. This one is world class.

Bottle. Dark black body with a dense khaki head. Aromas of burnt and roasted malt. Charcoal, peat, a little vanilla and some chocolate. Flavor is lovely. Lots of charcoal harshness that balances nicely against dark fruit and cream with a thread of chocolate that sews everything together before a biting peat finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and ABV is warming. Lovely.

Pours black into an English pint. Mocha head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Thick with dark chocolate and salty caramel upfront turning to bitter earth, resin and espresso in the lasting finish.

Es increíble tener la oportunidad de probar esta cerveza, profundas notas tostadas con caramelo y un cuerpo de locura.

Bottle to snifter (shared by tastybeer). Looks good; a slightly translucent very dark cola with beige lacing. Smells good too; bittersweet with notes of dark malt, coffee, roast, and mild smoke with a touch of caramel. Tastes like it smells, but with more smoke. Maybe a bit of dark chocolate too. Good on the palate with a nice, dry finish. Good stuff.

Bottle. Pours an inky black with an off-white small head. Woodsy aroma, of toasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, brown sugar. Taste is rich and smooth, bitter chocolate, coffee, sharp wood, creamy caramel underneath. Hides the alcohol well. Lingering bitter woody dark chocolate. Very nice.
