4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very dark with a small amount of dark khaki head that sticks around the rim. Smells of anise, plum, raisin, chocolate, vanilla, alcohol. An ashy sweet roasted chocolate taste with roasted bitter throughout, some cocoa, coffee, anise. Lots of the roasted chocolate taste that is very good balance of sweetness and hops. Cigarette ash like bitter. Caramel malt. A very good sipper. Medium mouthfeel, not too thick. Light carbonation.

Fantastic stout. Just purchased at Moeder Lambic in Brussels. They just arrived. In line with most stouts. Has a light foam but is rich in taste.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Rays in Tosa. Pours very dark with a tan head, leaving great spots of lace. Aroma has leather and dark chocolate, and certainly caramel, and meat smoke (funny that have seen other descriptions of "leather", but never felt/smelled that before). Taste immediately brings sweet caramel, dark chocolate, more of that smoky-ness, some espresso and molasses. Sweet, salty and bitter. All together. Some alcohol presence. Full bodied and thick. Finishes long and bittersweet/salty. This is a nice one from a solid brewery - but not sure it qualifies as the "great darkness".

Wonderful stout with a nice thick yet smooth palette. It tastes better as you let it sit out for a while. Highly recommended. Another great beer from Dieu du Ciel.
