COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

ABV initially 8.5%, changed in late 2012 to 9%.

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small tan head. Aroma of dried fruit, chocolate, acetone, raw sugar, raisins and white pepper. Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of bitter chocolate, coffee, licorice, dried fruit, white pepper and bread. Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Quite nice, but the aroma is a bit all over the place.

Poured from the bottle. Not a big smell. Some chocolate but not much else. But the appearance is great. Dark black with a nice tan mocha head. Taste is pretty good. Some chocolate and dark fruits. The back end has a nice bitter aftertaste. Not used to that in a stout. It’s a nice, full bodied beer. Overall a good beer.

Bottle from the Sybarite Pig in Boca Raton, FL. Amazing looking black pour with a thin mocha head. Good rim and lacing. Aroma is strong notes of dark, bitter chocolate, light roast coffee, peat, earth and caramel. The taste is similar with the peat and bitter dark chocolates mostly showing through. Medium body and medium carbonation. The end is bitter and great. No real booze on the finish either. Very well balanced and smooth to drink. Nice beer!

12oz bottle pours almost midnight black with large mocha colored head. leaving plenty of lacing on the glass. aroma is strong of deep roasted malts, hints of coffee and chocolate. the flavor is mildly bitter blended with chocolate first and then the deep roasted malts followed by more bitterness but it is mild... the alcohol is well hidden. this beer is amazing. it is medium to heavy body but more towards medium yet just enough thickness to it. the chocolate is almost semi sweet in nature. overall this is another incredible beer from dieu du ciel...merci mon ami’

A sinus-clearing heavy dark roasted coffee nose, a significant tan head on a dense black body. If you like your imperial stouts heavy on the dark roasted coffee end of the spectrum, this is your beer. Unsweetened cocoa and dark chocolate keep this stout on the dark end of the taste spectrum. Alcohol is present, but not out of place. End taste has a little balancing hops and biscuity malt. Maybe not Dieu du Ciel’s most refined Imperial stout, but a lovely addition to the fold.

2013 bottle to a tulip glass. Pours black with a foamy light brown head. Aroma is chocolate, light coffee grounds, vanilla and cherry. Taste is a dank, sharp coffee bitterness and chocolate. Medium mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown nearly black with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee and light licorice. Palate was full bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, and light coffee with a smooth dry bitter lingering roasty finish.

Completely opaque black pour with two fingers of mocha colored head with good retention and lots of sticky lacing. Molasses and dark chocolate aroma with some coffee and roastiness. Big and classic stout flavors with burnt molasses and dark chocolate along with prominent roastiness and some plum. Mild coffee flavor, some anise and both resinous and roasty bitter. Alcohol is detectable and warming but integrated well. Finishes with a smooth lingering bitter. Mouthfeel is semi creamy with a thick mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Very we'll constructed with bold flavors. Quite a bit of bitterness but it is smooth. Everything you could ask for in an imperial stout.

Black pour with a tan head. Aromas of cocoa, roasted malts, coffee, and some subtle dark fruit notes. Flavor is dark chocolate upfront with notes of caramel and toffee as well as some plum notes. Really complex and delicious. Great beer!
