COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

ABV initially 8.5%, changed in late 2012 to 9%.

Bottle from the Sybarite Pig in Boca Raton, FL. Amazing looking black pour with a thin mocha head. Good rim and lacing. Aroma is strong notes of dark, bitter chocolate, light roast coffee, peat, earth and caramel. The taste is similar with the peat and bitter dark chocolates mostly showing through. Medium body and medium carbonation. The end is bitter and great. No real booze on the finish either. Very well balanced and smooth to drink. Nice beer!

Clear very dark brown to black color, brown head. Alcohol, grainy, ash, soot scent. Salty, alcohol, vinous taste. Fizzy mouthfeel, low bitterness.

11.5 oz. bottle. 0 and 3 are notched on the label. A jet-black pour with a small chestnut head. Dark chocolate, roasted coffee, caramel, light anise notes, and creamy vanilla in the aroma. Goes down full-bodied and smooth. Caramel and chocolate start things off taste-wise. A Graham cracker and chocolate cake-like middle. Chewy. Roasted coffee and hints of anise at the bitter end. Kinda earthy. The 9% ABV is very well-hidden. Extremely drinkable for such a big beer. High quality.

Bottle. Pours an intensely dark black body under a small frothy dark brown head that faded to a thin film. The nose is intensely roasty with lots of dark caramel and coffee with some nice fruitiness and moderate alcohol. The flavor is pretty great, intense roastiness and burnt caramel, plenty of coffee, well hidden alcohol, and really well restrained sweetness. The alcohol makes itself known a bit on the finish but it’s not boozy in the slightest. A pretty good trick to pull off. Medium bodied and fairly chewy with nice soft carbonation. It’s mouth coating but not cloying at all. There’s a bitter chocolate note that builds nicely as I make my way through the bottle that’s really delicious. This is superb from beginning to end. Great beer. Thanks a ton Dany!

A really good stout. Pours black and thick. Aromas of cream, wet dog, anise, and dark chocolate. Nice creamy start before a beautifully balanced bittersweet chocolate finish. DDC can do almost no wrong.

Draught at Bar Volo. Pours an opaque black colour with a small tanned head which recedes to a ring like film. Aroma of raisins and booze. Medium body low carbonation.

Bottle thanks to WillRunForBeer. Dense black pour with very little head that fades to a thin ring. Aromas are smoked meat, burnt wood, dark roasted coffee, and light dried dark fruit. Taste is a mix of peat smoke and campfire smoke with hints of raisins and burnt coffee. Very strong bitterness. Might be the most bitter imperial stout I’ve had. Medium to full body. Really good but it was a bit hard to finish the whole 12 oz bottle. The strong bitterness and smoke wears on you a bit. I wish I would’ve opened this on a bonfire night.

12oz bottle brought back from my Denver trip. Black oily pour with corse tan/mocha head. Slowly recedes to a thin skin. Coffee and licorice on the nose some alcohol fumes and dark raisins. Sharp charcoal rostiness, with some graham cracker and carmel malts. Quite a few IBUs and this I think would fade nicely in the cellar for several months. Perfectly attenuated with enough residual sugars for a nice palate, but dry enough to keep from hiding the hop bite at the end. very nice.

Pour is black with a thin brown head. This beer hits the nose with strong chocolate and coffee notes and a hint of dried fruits. Taste is again strong chocolate followed by a long coffee bitterness and a warming alcohol note. But the 9% are still well hidden. Some hidden sweetness ist there too adding a note of raisins and dried prunes.
