COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

ABV initially 8.5%, changed in late 2012 to 9%.

Bottle from Bar Hop. Black with a thin brown head. Aroma of coffee, cinnamon, and dark fruits. Taste is extremely dry roasty with cinnamon, and a little vanilla/bourbon. Body feels thin. Pretty nice, but not super great by Imperial Stout standards.

Oh this is a superior ale! Pours thick, black and with a brown head, nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate and some hints of coffee. Very complex palate as well with a roasty and smokey character infused in coffee, malts, caramel, vanilla and dark chocolate. Booze is very well hidden, full body, dry finish. Overall... one of the best!

11.5oz. bottle: This one pours an opaque, inky dark brown color. There was a finger of a dark tan head on it that didn’t linger too long. Good nose. Roastiness, caramel malts, fruit, smokiness, some chocolate and coffee. the taste is very good. Smokey, chocolate, roastiness, some bitterness. No alcohol notes. A really good imperial stout.

341ml bottle. Pours an average size foamy head and a pitch black colour. Some sediments on the way out of bottle into glass were noticeable. Has some roasted malt aromas as well as mild spices and notes of caramel and vanilla. The flavours are plentiful with coffee, dark roasted malts and chocolate the main taste. There are also hints of barley, caramel, toffee. Many flavours! Pretty lively mouthfeel, some bitterness but quite inoffensive. Little bit bitter aftertaste. And the alcohol is well hidden, this being a 9%abv brew. Very good. Dieu du Ciel hardly ever disappoints.

Black Imperial Stout. Aroma has heavy roasted and burnt smells, with some chocolate mixed in. Bitter chocolate and burnt malt taste with a nice, long finish. Not very complex but a good beer.

Interesting smell. Roasty, salty, with lots of dark fruit, particularly raisin. Similar aroma to a well done BBQ hamburger. Shiny black color with a dark brown tuft of foam. Flavor follows the aroma closely but with a touch more sweetness. Black coffee in the aftertaste that is not present in the aroma. Good palate; it is hard to hold up to all of these massive flavors but it does a pretty good job. Above average stout, too heavy on the roast and umami flavors but gets points for being unique.

0.341 l bottle from ’Saveur Bière’, bottled in October 2015. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, brown head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of cocoa, coffee powder and hazelnut. Sweet, roasty-malty taste of cocoa, hard roasted coffee, toasted nuts and licorice, followed by a medium long, rather roasty-bitter finish. Medium to full body, smooth and creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Rather easy-drinking for an Imperial Stout, sweet and pleasant flavours, but perfectly balanced. Really good!

Deep dark coulor. Nice head not lasting long. The aroma is a bit less pronounced than in other stout. Very good taste of dark chocolate and torrified malts, nice alcohol taste. Quite light body in mouth. Beautiful stout to taste

341ml bottle from Systembolaget, vintage 2015. Black with a beige creamy dense head, leving good lacing around the glass. Rich aroma, roasted barley, smoke, tobacco, chocolate and licorice. Creamy, soft and rounded mouthfeel, full-bodied, mildly carbonated. Creamy malty taste, coffee, chocolate, smoky and chalky, lakris and peppery notes. Long warming finish.
