COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

ABV initially 8.5%, changed in late 2012 to 9%.

Tap at BarHop. Deep black pour with a fast fading tan head. The aroma is lovely. Very big and roasty with a lot of dry chocolate character and a little bit of salted/savory malt. Intensely salty and rich with a heavy roasted component. Itís intense - but itís not really the type of Impy Stout that gets me going.

Bottle, courtesy of SlovakSniper. Thick, dark pour with a nice brown head. Chocolate, coffee, bread raisins and cherries. A little boozy, full-bodied, and very flavourful. Fantastic imperial stout.

Bottle. Blackish beer with a brown head. Light roast and nutty aroma with malt. Malt and light caramel flavor with light roast and backing PNW hops. Medium-plus bodied. Light roast and light coffee lingers with malt and light pine.

Thick impenetrable black with medium cushion of brown head. Aromas of toast, roasted malt. Once you sip it it adds leather, ash, cocoa. Relatively dry for an imp stout, which really lets a potent bitterness hit you from start to finish. Alcohol well concealed. Bitterness starts to be a bit much

Bottle from The Beer Trappe, Lexington. Dark brown color. Aroma of roast, coffee, chocolate, herbal hops. The taste is bitter roast, coffee, chocolate, bitter hops, a bit of raisin. Medium bodied, good balance. Nice beer.

Bottle. Was glad to lay my hands on this. A: Pitch black with a mocha head. Good retention and legs. N: Cocoa, coffee, licorice, anise, malted milkballs, dark fruits - maybe prune. Good char here, too. T: Hefty coffee and roast bitterness. Sweetness in the background, but itís fairly balanced. M: Thick, oily, no alcohol presence. O; A very well balanced RIS, as is DDCís wont. I really enjoy what they do, and this is no exception. Not the best IRS, but certainly an excellent addition to the cellar.

The Sampler, NYC tap: Pours black with a light tan head. Aroma is massive amounts of coffee and chocolate, roasted malts, caramel malts... like a high class Milky Way without the sweetness and instead a dirty bitterness bringing it all together. Nice hoppy flavors, but they are mellowed by the smooth body and incredible balance. This took me quite a while to finish, but it was enjoyable through and through.

Bottle from last night that I forgot to rate. Black. The aroma was intense roasted malt that was noticeable as soon as I opened the bottle. The taste added coffee and booze. medium mouthfeel. Excellent

Bottle from Yonkers, NY. One of the best pieces of label art from this beer. Haunting. Appearance of beer is black with some mild tan foam. Aroma is roast coffee. Taste is the same with some bakers chocolate in the mix. Very smooth and drinkable but not terribly exciting or moreish.

On tap at the beerbistro. Pours a near black, oily dark brown with big, lasting brown head. Aroma has an interesting amalgam of roasty coffee, dark fruit, molasses and anise. Flavour is more fruity than anticipated with dark fruits and berries, molasses, anise and understated roasty coffee character. Very fine, reasonably lively carbonation. Dangerously easy to drink. Wow!
