3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Oakes (10935) - Savusavu, FIJI ISLANDS - JUN 29, 2012
DDC version, draught at the brewpub. Brown colour and fruity aroma with a light chocolate note. The taste is simpler, drier than the Japanese version and the fruits are more muted. Dark fruits, light coffee and chocolate are highlighted, along with alcohol, so there is quite a bit of complexity. For me, however, it does not come together as well as it did in the Shiga Kogen version. I would like some acidity up front and barrelly dryness at the back. Perhaps that is what the BA version will deliver...

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Beershine (5173) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - JUN 6, 2012
Draft at DDC. Black, opaque, tan cap. Aroma of bourbon barrel, vanilla, smoked blueberry, and a well brewed fruity, acidic espresso. The flavors follow. Luscious body and silky flavors. Roast is soft and subtle serving as a foundational element of the beer’s architecture. The skeleton of the beer is a ripe Ethiopian coffee cherry, with lively acidity. Dark, assertive cocoa nib. A tannic finish seals the deal. Unfolds gracefully. Godly.
