Rating #838 - December 16, 2013 - Bottle courtesy of @plunkie and on several recommendations. Failed to disappoint. Little tan head bubbles out of an opaque black pour. Aroma is spicy yeasty esters, lemon peel, and chocolatey raisiny malt. Palate is a cornucopia of awesome - lots of body, medium alcohol warmth, mild carbonation, smooth mouthfeel. Notes of plum, currant, chocolate, coffee, caramel, allspice. Moderately hopped and a phenomenal bitterness and a slight sourness from the yeast. So gewd.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a light brown head that laces beautifully. Aroma is packed with pungent green hops initially, then the dark malts start to climb out, then the spicy estery yeast shows up. This is a chameleon of a beer! Crazy complexity, with hops and yeast battling it out for domination on a bed of roasty dark malts. Really really interesting-- captures the idea of a black saison beautifully! Wow.

caramel, coffee, chocolate, roasty, herbs, resin, black, cloudy, tan foam, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, medium sourness, soft carbonation, full body, creamy, long finish. Incredible beer. Wasn’t sure at first, thought the two styles clashed, but as I drank more it just kept improving.

2013/12/05 - Pours an opaque black colour with a foamy, khaki head that lingers. Aroma is saison yeast, smokey malts, chocolate and espresso. Taste is similar to aroma with minor citrus and peppery notes as well. Mouthfeel is medium with prickly carbonation and a bitter, drying finish. Odd beer, but not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a thick but transient tan head and a smoky treacle aroma. There is a rich dark molasses flavor with a bitter finish. This is a very strange beer, but all the disparate tastes somehow work together.

Pours very dark brown/black with a creamy/fizzy dark tan head. Sort of dark malt aroma with yeast and hop aspects. Rather confusing. Full bodied. Flavor is biting, yeasty, "green" hop, treacle and dark malt. With a little time it gets somewhat earthy. Maybe dank is a word I should be using. Now I think I get a hint of mint. Or something that "tingles". Pretty nice ale.

Black pour with foamy persistent beige head. Aroma of malts, yeast, hops and slight citrus. Taste of roasted malts, yeast, slight citrus, hops and pepper. As it warmed I noticed faint fruitiness up front, quickly hidden by the peppery middle and hoppy dry finish. This beer just doesn’t do it for me.

341ml bottle from Brewdog online shop. Pours deep dark brown with a big brown head, bit lively! Aromas of chocolate, liquorice, charcoal and a hint of zingy yeast. Taste has more of the same, a very rounded sweetness. Good slick mouthfeel, dry finish. Very nice.

Bottle 341 ml. Bought in a conveniance store in Drummondville (Qc). Pours dark brown, with creamy beige-brown head. Lot of lacing. Hard to describe this beer. From my experience, I don’t have a lot of other Imperial Dark Saison, if any, to refer to. Malty beer, with saison yeast, chocolate, vanilla. Pretty heavy.

Bottle. Pours with a pitch black hued body body with a massive tan head that stays. Aromas are of black pepper, roasted malt, chocolate and a lovely bready/toasty base malt character that I get on a lot of DDC beers. Lightly estery, leather, baked apple and molasses. Flavors are medium dry, roasty, chocolate, medium bitter, iodine, molasses, dry. Their malt profile is always very nice and elegant/baked biscuity. I get the flavor contribution so often on their bottled beers (that I can pick up thousands of miles away), that I assume it is something with their regular base malt. Lightly citrusy, fruit. Lively carbonation, medium bodied, with well hidden alcohol.
