3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Oakes (10941) - Savusavu, FIJI ISLANDS - JUN 29, 2012
DDC version, draught at the brewpub. Brown colour and fruity aroma with a light chocolate note. The taste is simpler, drier than the Japanese version and the fruits are more muted. Dark fruits, light coffee and chocolate are highlighted, along with alcohol, so there is quite a bit of complexity. For me, however, it does not come together as well as it did in the Shiga Kogen version. I would like some acidity up front and barrelly dryness at the back. Perhaps that is what the BA version will deliver...
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 yngwie (10761) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - OCT 1, 2012
On tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. It’s a black one, topped by a creamy, two finger tan head, looking really great. The aroma has roasted malts, dried fruits and some Belgian style yeastiness. Roasted malts, licorice hints, dried fruits, a touch of Belgian ale yeast and a fine bitterness in the flavor. It’s creamy, full-bodied, lightly warming and quite dry on the palate, and with a bitter finish. A lovely tasteful and complex beer. 120511
