3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very good looking beer, dark of dark. Strong alcohol taste, with coffee, chocolate, hoppy! Since I’m not a fan of carbonation, that is where this beer lost most of it’s points... In all, if it can be called that, a great, saison
with a black North American touch! Well done.

Draft at the one mile house NYC after battling through Chinatown. Wow. Very easy drinking deep black ale. No head. Taste is yeasty with a nice finish

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
One Mile House, NYC tap: Pours black with a greyish head. No lacing. Aroma is strange: saison yeast, some chocolate, roast, flowers, and some spice. Body is kind of light and easy, but has a little heavy bit around the end. Somewhat sweet. Low bitterness. Kind of dry. Pretty complex. Quite good.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
11.5 ounce bottle. Served in a tulip, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. I like the aroma, the brew smells like roasted malt, lemon peel, apricots, coffee, bittersweet and milk chocolate, burnt/charred malt and a bit of blueberry. The brew tastes like roasted/charred/burnt malt, blueberries, coffee, bittersweet chocolate, citrus peel, peppery spice, blackberries, herbalness, apricots and a bit of grainy/bready malt. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s coating and a bit creamy, and also has a good amount of carbonation. I think this is a good and interesting brew. For some reason the flavor reminds me of Dark Horse’s Tres Blueberry Stout, even though there isn’t any blueberry in this beer (that I’m aware of anyway). The label says it’s a hybrid between an imperial stout and a saison, and I’d agree with that even though I think it leans more towards a stout. If you come across a bottle of this, pick it up! $5.19 a bottle.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours an almost opaque black letting a faint reddish hue topped by a finger or so of moka fissy head. Retention is moderate but the head totally dissipates leaving nothing behind. The nose is weird and sweet. Dark chocolate, mint, some booze and smokey features with charcoal and hickory. The taste is bold, spicy, peppery. Sharp and smokey dark chocolate with burnt toast/charcoal. There is a herbal element but I can’t put my finger on it. The brew feels dense and offers a long liquorish finish. This seems midway between a Belgian Strong Dark Ale and an Imperial Russian Stout. Probably an interesting one to let age in your cellar. Cheers!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Very dark pour with a thick mocha head. Very interesting aroma - mostly chocolate malt and citrus zest, mostly sweet. Flavour is a little tart, chocolate and slightly roasty notes with some citrus and spice. Really good but a little strange.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
There is an exotic aroma of floral, herbs, earthy, coffee, alcohol, cooked vegetables. Pour black, sparkling, frothy, brown foam, heavily sour, medium bitterness, medium body, oily feel, fizzy, sour, long finish. Packs quite a punch, attacks the senses, a world of its own.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy/creamy, brown, mostly lasting.
Body is black (non-opaque, flashlight tested).
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, unsweetened chocolate), lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of cherry, sour apple, clove.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter.
Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively/fizzy carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Aroma is a somewhat disjointed mix of stuff, kind of like a dump bucket at a beer tasting, but not really unpleasant exactly, just unfocused and vague. It’s not much fun in the mouth either, being overly sour and bitter and having a kind of flabby and fizzy mouthfeel. Disappointing and mediocre at best.
