Very good looking beer, dark of dark. Strong alcohol taste, with coffee, chocolate, hoppy! Since I’m not a fan of carbonation, that is where this beer lost most of it’s points... In all, if it can be called that, a great, saison with a black North American touch! Well done.

Bottle... Pours murky and dark brown with a small, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. The aroma is a luxurious collection of dark chocolate, fudge and toasted nuts, with a whisper of vanilla. Full-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and airy carbonation. The flavor is bitter, deeply burnt and lightly acrid. Finishes charred, bitter, a bit raspy, and then dries out. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!

Dark with a big off white head. Aroma is slight burn, tobacco, yeast. Very dry on the tongue with a long dry finish. Interesting.

Pours a deep dark burnt umber with three fingers of sticky khaki foam. Nose is heavy on the roast, layers of baking chocolate, dark ripe berry, forest floor, moss trace of smoke. Palate follows the nose with great complexity, dusty dark chocolate, blueberry, anise, some umami character, mushroom, boozy burnt brownie. Yummy, this beer makes more sense of the pinot barrel version I tried at the first festival, now Im interested to revisit that beer !

Dark, foamy pour. The label features a drawing of samurai holding a little red bird - what is that all about? The aroma is tangy, with hints of brandy, fruit punch, coffee, and prune. The flavor is complex - lots of hops and toasted grains, and there is a spicy tingle in the finish. A little hard-edged but impossible to ignore. Another superior brew by DdC.

Bottle from State Line. Pours thick, fizzy, and jet black with 1-finger tan head. Nose is yeasty funk, roasty dark malt, figgy fruit, molasses, cacao. Tastes malty, yeasty, funky, with figgy fruit, cacao, cherry, hops. Comes off like a Belgian Quad, dark saison, and Impy Stout hybrid.

Dark brown pour with a tan head. The aroma has some toffee and roasted malt notes. The flavor is similar. I get some toffee and some Belgian farmhouse character with a hint of pepper and some yeast notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

341 ml bottle shared two ways. Pours a dark dark black with a fairly small dense tan head. Nose has lots of burnt malts and some yeasty notes. Taste is fairly sweet, with a lot of roast, some light ash and a tad vanilla. Pretty good but much more like a stout than a Belgian ale.

11.5oz bottle into Le Listermann - sip came from the head that was about to spill over; that sip was coffee, roast and almost burnt. Nose has hints of lactose. Second offers a "vague à propos of nothing" to quote some guy from TV. Smoother than the usual impy stout.

Fiche technique : Style: Saison Noir Impérial Format: 341 ml Taux d’alcool : 9,5%
