Bottle from local Iga A: tropical fruits from the hops, toasty and peppery. App: pitch black beige head. t/p: thin body acidic finish of medium intensity. O : now this is original. The roastiness is present but not upfront. Great hop aroma the yeast add a nice feel to the beer.

On tap at Torst, Brooklyn, 14.5.16.Black. Grapes, sherry, a little smoke in the nose. sweet, velvety, a little smoky and dry taste. Full body, no carbonation, soft, long, bitter-alcoholic finish with notes of oloroso and nuts.

Opaque black color with lots of glass clinging activity. Frothy and creamy brown 3 finger head, lasting around 15-20 minutes, with a bit of lacing. Flavors of dark grains, dark fruits like prunes, cocoa, coffee, belgian yeast, nuts, black liquorice, and herbal spices. Molassy sugars with a balanced bitter earthy and leathery feel. Creamy full body with crispy carbonation. Strong finish, a little dry and vinous that ends quite fast , lingering roasted malts, earthy spices, cappuccino, dark fruity yeast, and notes oak and walnuts. An imperial stout with saison elements, but I wouldn’t call this a Saison. Low freshness from a strong alcoholic feel and slightly metallic...would serve this as an appetizer. A little too strong but still pleasant and very warming. Nice flavors, lots of them, making a complex brew. Overall very good quality craft.

Pours a thick brown bubbly head and has a dark brown almost black appearance. Good lacing. Much more hops in aroma than malts, sort of an earthy spiced hops with notes of citrus hops and grainy malts. Mild roasted malt flavours, chocolate, coffee and hints of caramel. A little sweet. Less hoppy flavour, mainly earthy hops, notes of nutty malts and toffee as well. Quite flavourful! Has a creamy mouthfeel with lively carbonation. Full bodied and some mouthcoating slickness. Has a mild bitterness in the finish, not offensive. Easy drinking, especially for a 9.5% abv beer.

341 ml bottle. Bottled 2015/09/10. Merci beaucoup Timo A!
Dark brown color with a tiny tan head. Mild sourness, strong sweetness, mild hoppy bitterness and dark maltiness in the aroma. Mild sourness, moderate bitterness, vinegar, soy and dark malt in the flavor. A bit too challenging. It’s a mystery what this is.

Bottle, 341mL. Home. A very dark brown beer, nearly black ; beige-brown foamy head ; good retention and lacing. Red beries (blackberry), roast, toast, black chocolate, herbal note. Medium dry lasting bitter ; nicely refreshing, light acid, light sweet. Medium elegant body, avearge texture, average good carbonation, dry roasty lasting finish. Overall, great ! I enjoyed this fruity toasty herbal story.

12oz bottle, purchased September 2015, drunk 7/30/16. The notches on the side indicate a 0 and a 3. I have no idea what that means, but I assume this beer is somewhere between 1.5 and 2 years old.
An absolute immense amount of dark beige head tops a dark, deep-amber-mahogany brown body with moderate clarity. Head retention is strong.
The nose is full of plastery yeast-like minerality and very soft honey-vanilla. The dark malts do not impose too much strength, adding lighter burnt caramel and maple/treacle notes. Very soft all around with maybe just a touch of ethanol, but it doesn’t even seem out-of-place, balancing the sweeter malts quite nicely and mixing with lightly peppery phenols. Nothing messy here and while it’s obviously not a traditional saison, the yeast profile is actually pretty in-line with what I want from a saison.
Incredibly soft, pillowy malts also show exactly what I’d like from the texture of a saison, with tight carbonation, to-boot. There’s more sweetness than I’d like overall, but just by a touch. Otherwise, the maple-vanilla-caramel flavors delight and a very strong treacle-like dry acidity balances fairly well. Light brown bread notes as well, but it’s not bready in the bad sense. Some alcohol dryness, but nothing sharp/noxious. Very, very drinkable and made all the better by the plaster/mineral character of the yeast.

Dark brown color with mocha head. Aroma has dark malts, chocolate, brown sugar, dark fruits and some spices. Taste starts with some liquorice, chocolate, roasted malt, quite bitter, especially on the finish and lingering very long on the aftertaste with roasted chocolate malt. Body is quite light with a good amount of carbonation. Overall it’s an interesting spicy beer with a very well hidden ABV but a bit unbalanced for my taste.

Bottle at home, 27/06/16. Ordered from Saviere Biere. The alcohol comes through in the aroma, with a dark roasted element. Dark and treacle looking. Had a superb chocolate milkshake head, which disapated far too quickly. Bitter but not too much so. Full thick body with a good alcohol burn to it. More of a winter beer. Good stuff.
