3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 25, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Intrepid cherry fruitiness leads to volcanic vinegary eruptions in which acetic acidity and cheesy funk provide a vigorous climax for this slick and intense P-Lambic experience.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A wiry ring of foam circles the cloudy dark red.
-For some reason, I thought the fruit integration worked better in this one; the raspberry and the cranberry didn’t work quite as well in that territory to my palate.
-While the first half of the sip is rather classy, the second half could be considered brutal.
-Carbonation is nearly still.
-The fruitiness does provide some sweetness upfront; but it doesn’t last long!
-The finish is so brash it could make you cough if you take too big of a sip.
-As others have said, it is indeed very difficult to finish a bottle of this, but for some reason I enjoyed this Cherry version.
From the bottle at the brewpub.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
375mL bottle @ DDC 10th Anniversary Party. Pours a slightly murky, darkened ruby color; mostly headless. Solid amounts of pitty cherries, stems, and light tannins in the aroma; plenty of sweaty funk and acidity. Medium mouthfeel: lots of red fruits, high levels of tartness and acidity, muddled and slightly light-bodied core; highly acidic, mouthwatering. Lengthy finish: lasting acidity, bing / sour cherries, and red fruit; dry and tart end.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at the DDC 10th anniversary party. Pours a hazed deep reddish with no head. Aroma is insanely sour- aceto, getting malt vinegar mixed with red wine vinegar, cherry pit, light skins, woody oak, prickly on the nose from the acetic acid. Flavor is light flemish red like- with aceto, cherry pit, tannic skins, earth, mineral, and almost seems like this is an out of control flemish red and less of a lambic of any sort- lacking funky brett complexity and lactic- while it is mostly acetic (maybe some malic).

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a hazy red color with no head. The aroma is very acidic and fruity. The flavor has overpowering acidity, vinegar and fruits, it gets to the point of being hard to drink, it’s too much for me!

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
In short: Vinegar and sweet cherries. Excessively acidic. Inexplicably not offensive.
How: Bottle 375ml at brewpub 10th anniversary party
The look: Cloudy dark red body with no head to speak of
In long: When first opening the bottle I was rather excited by the funky and slightly vinous aroma. However soon after pouring it into my glass the funk was all gone and I was left with a vinegary nose. First thing first, this beer might just be the most acidic beer I’ve ever had, it took me like an hour to drink a 375ml, and I gave some away. I love sour/acidic beers but this is vinegar. Once I got somewhat used to its extreme acidity I noticed that the beer was surprisingly sweet for a “lambic” (well kind-of I guess) but its sweetness almost goes unnoticed because of the dominant acidity. Despite the extreme acidity the cherries were coming through. The extreme acidity, the sweetness and the cherries blend in to create a sensation of maraschino cherries in vinegar. This is far from a good fruit lambic but I found somewhat interesting in its extremeness. Way too much vinegar for me. I ended up drinking it anyway because I couldn’t find salt and a cup of French fries.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bouteille verte de 375 ml, lors du 10e anniversaire. Arômes acides de cerises sûres. Robe rouge claire, peu effervescente. Très acide et vinaigrée, les cerises sûres sont également bien présentes. Arrière-goût de vinaigre balsamique. Très intense (un peu trop), il est difficile de terminer une bouteille.

2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottled at the DDC 10th Anniversary Party. This was flat out vile. The aroma was ok, some sour but a bit of diacetyl. Perhaps some celery. And chemicals. But the flavor was flat out disgusting. OK when it enters the mouth, but midway through it is the most diacetyl laced beer I have ever tasted. There is nothing left to taste after that. Gag reflexes are triggered and any other quality that this beer may have is quickly forgotten in attempts to rid the horrid substance from the mouth. Blech! Oh, and it’s completely flat.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
