Commercial Description:
If you love really good coffee and really good beer equally, you will be thrilled with Péché Mortel. If coffee isn’t your cup of tea, and caffeine makes you bounce off the ceiling, then just put the bottle down and find something else to drink. This beer is all about coffee. Indeed, you may have seen ‘coffee stouts’ before, but no brewer has ever married coffee and beer so naturally and seamlessly.
And this isn’t just any stout, but an imperial stout, which means that it is modeled on the strong, rich, and very complex stouts that were made in England in the 19th and early 20th centuries exclusively for shipment to Russia, where they were a special favorite at the court of the Czars.

BOTTLE READS 11/04:first off i have to give MUCH thanks to footbalm for hooking me up with this rare brew.im am very excited to rate this coffee stout.i popped the top and dumped a few ounces into my courvoisier snifter glass.the body was super black,so black that i held a flashlight up to the glass and saw no light what so ever.i got a nice 1/2 inch dark brown head that left thick webbing on the snifter as it sat down.my nose was greeted with a lovely balance of coffee, coco, roasted malts, chocolate, and s’mores.i put the glass up to my lips and took the first sip.roasted coffee, malts, alcohol, fudge, and a tiny bit of "burnt" flavor at the end.the mouthfeel was nice and thick, with a bit of a bite at the end.overall this is very nice as expected, and as it warms, the bite mellows out a bit.supurb stuff indeed. 2005 re-rate of a 2004 bottle.flavors have melted together a bit but the sharp carbonation/burnt coffee is still there.maybe it needs more time to mellow. (RE-RATE:MAY 2005 BOTTLE ON AUG. 11TH OF 06)i must say the 05 blows the 04 out of the water.the bitter coffee/carbonation is gone.its smooth coffee and chocolate.nice lacing on the glass from the dark brown head as well.i can see why this was hyped up so much now.

Bottle,( one of two) thanks very much pyrozoid! Pours jet black, blacker than the coffee I brew at home (in Seattle). Outstanding lush and thick brown head which also reminds me of coffee. Nose is all toasted beans with some sweet malt. Mouthfeel is luscious but not too rich. deep coffee notes in the taste balanced by roasted malt and a touch of sweet mocha. Sprite carbonation is lively on the tongue. Wish I could have a cup of this in the morning! Utterly terrific

Oh yeah! Shit yeah! Thanks, WeeHeavySD, again! I wish I could get coffee this delicious at the hundred coffee shops in my neighborhood. But I can’t. Then combine that delicious coffee over a super tasty stout? Hell yeah. That’s what I’m talking about right there. This was very good, nay, great. Need more. Just ordered a new liver on ebay that should be here any day now. Game on.

lots of coffee and licorice aromas and flavors. a good amount of bitter roast to push back the sweetness.
