Commercial Description:
If you love really good coffee and really good beer equally, you will be thrilled with Péché Mortel. If coffee isn’t your cup of tea, and caffeine makes you bounce off the ceiling, then just put the bottle down and find something else to drink. This beer is all about coffee. Indeed, you may have seen ‘coffee stouts’ before, but no brewer has ever married coffee and beer so naturally and seamlessly.
And this isn’t just any stout, but an imperial stout, which means that it is modeled on the strong, rich, and very complex stouts that were made in England in the 19th and early 20th centuries exclusively for shipment to Russia, where they were a special favorite at the court of the Czars.

Bottle: pours dark black with a dark tan head and pretty nice lacing on the glass, aroma is heavy on the coffee, taste is obviously coffee flavored but not as overpowering as I was expecting, the beer also has some roasted malt taste, leaves a bitter aftertaste in the back of the mouth like you just drank some coffee. Very nice coffee stout - one of the best I’ve had.

The aroma is coffee, a little toasted caramel. The head is light brown, creamy, mostly diminishing with good lacing. The color is black. The initial flavor is coffee, bitters - nice. Hits the back of the tongue with a nice long finish. The body is light to medium, the texture creamy, just a hint watery and the carbonation soft.

Taste 7/8 bottle(date on bottle not marked) Looks: Dark opaque brown with a thin yeasty clinging head. Aroma: Roast, mocha, freshly ground coffee. Taste: Full flavored coffee with acidity. Mild hops spice, felt along with the alcohol. Very smooth. Really nice, no unneeded flavors. Great for coffee fans.

Bottle. Pours near black with a tan head. Coffee/espresso aroma, with dark chocolate and floral hop notes. Medium/full body. Flavor is roasted malt and coffee beans, with a light smoky note. Also has fruit and dark chocolate. Finished with a lingering bitterness from both floral hops and roasted malt. Very nice.

Very black colored with a huge tan colored head. Smell is fresh ground coffee, dark fruits, chocalate, and roastiness. Tastes a lot like the smell. Good beer.

From my review at cvillebeergeek.blogspot.com.

Appearance: Poured into a small tulip glass. Molasses brown pour results in a nearly opaque blackness in the glass. High level of viscosity is apparent. A small head fairly quickly vanishes to nothing. It’s not pretty, but it is very inviting. 4.0/5.0

Aroma: Very complex. Bitter and sweet coffee is at the forefront of the aroma along with notes of smoke, tobacco and chocolate. Smoke and tobacco? Yes, the aroma does come dangerously close to a coffee and cigarettes, but it works. Very full and satisfying aroma... the kind you can smell for hours. 4.5/5.0

Taste: Very nice. Smooth coffee flavor with more tobacco and some leather and cream. Now we’re at coffee with cream and cigarettes! Still good though. Chocolate notes from the aroma almost disappear but are there faintly, as well as smoke and caramel notes. And the alcohol, high as it is, is completely absent. 4.25/5.0

Mouthfeel: This has a very full feel to it. And it’s creamy, very creamy, and silky too. This feels nice. 4.45/5.0

Drinkability: A very smooth beer, but it’s largesse and it’s 9.5% abv means it is not to be taken lightly. Still, it is an extraordinarily pleasant beer. 4.5/5.0

Overall: Sadly this is not available in our area. Hopefully that will change someday soon. If it does, $5.49 for an 11.5 ounce bottle is not a bad price for such an outstanding beer. Very smooth and incredibly tasty, this is one for the ages. Also, "Mortal Sin" is a very nice name for a beer. 4.4/5.0
