Eyedrinkale (3111), Beer Town, New York, USA Nov 15, 2004 Updated: Mar 25, 2005 Finally completing the missing piece of the three best impy stouts on the site. I have to say that since I have had them all, there really isn’t a clear best in this category. They all differ quite a bit with this and BA Speedway being only somewhat similar, this may get a slight edge. Sampled at the brewery from the fermenter, this is nothing short of black gold, liquid love, truely Nectar of the Gods. It’s my understanding that the partners of the brewery are working on having their beers distributed in the USA. The truth of the matter is that this could be the best made beer I have ever had the pleasure of putting my lips on. Unlike DL, you could drink a few of these, as there is somewhat of a supply (unlike BA Speedway). Now my Imperial Stout life is complete.
Re-rated after drinking bottled version. The bottle is way over carbonated and the flavors are more subdued than my previous experience.
AmicusBeer (7), Toronto, Ontario, Canada does not count Oct 13, 2008 Think stong chocolate coffee aroma. Pours think with a nice head. Very stong coffee nose. Not a session beer. Great desert beer. Great match with chocolate. Strykzone (1020), Wood River, Illinois, USA Oct 12, 2008 A beautiful pour, it is black, thick, and substantial with a two toned head of tan and brown. Two fingers in size. Aroma is iced coffee with roasted notes, whiskey, and dark fruit. Flavor is delicious and complex. Strong coffee, dark chocolate, alcohol, raisins. Feel is smooth and powdery. Flavors welded together beautifully as temp rose. This beer is incredibly well crafted and is absolutely delicious. A world class effort. Jonte (403), Gothenburg, Sweden Oct 12, 2008 Bottle. Black color with a lasting brown head. Aroma: Roastiness, espresso, a bit of sweetness and caramel. Flavor: Roastiness/bitterness, lots of coffee/espresso, some chocolate as well. The alcohol is mostly hidden. Creamy and dry mouthfeel. Very nice if you are a stout and coffee fan, but maybe a bit one-dimensional luttonm (54), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 11, 2008 Bottle,( one of two) thanks very much pyrozoid!
Pours jet black, blacker than the coffee I brew at home (in Seattle). Outstanding lush and thick brown head which also reminds me of coffee. Nose is all toasted beans with some sweet malt. Mouthfeel is luscious but not too rich. deep coffee notes in the taste balanced by roasted malt and a touch of sweet mocha. Sprite carbonation is lively on the tongue. Wish I could have a cup of this in the morning! Utterly terrific Bartzilla (403), San Diego, California, USA Oct 11, 2008 Oh yeah! Shit yeah! Thanks, WeeHeavySD, again! I wish I could get coffee this delicious at the hundred coffee shops in my neighborhood. But I can’t. Then combine that delicious coffee over a super tasty stout? Hell yeah. That’s what I’m talking about right there. This was very good, nay, great. Need more. Just ordered a new liver on ebay that should be here any day now. Game on.
