Rastacouere (5258), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Apr 30, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A drinkable porter with an extra kick of hops. Hoppy indeed, but I’ve heard the next batches will go further into the bitterness department. At the moment, this remains very balanced and probably more roasty than hoppy (as if we could make such a claim).
I like:
The basic porter has the DDC tag on it, well-bodied, clean, generous malt character, well-extracted roastiness. Quite coffee-like. Drinkable and an interesting new venture from Dieu du Ciel.
I dislike:
I did not quite find anything to grab my attention for a second glass. I’d rather move on with the menu quality that they have. Its hoppiness is not quite captivating and yet it’s too hesitating at the moment. Not quite sure where it’s going, but I’m confident that the next batches will be more defined.
LadySusan (360), Ste-Therese, Quebec, Canada Aug 13, 2008 On tap at Dieu du ciel. The color is a dark brown with a thick dark beige head. The taste is grainy and bitter, a mix of hops and malt , also added to this is a taste of roasted coffee. This is an I.P.A. mixed with a strong ale as only Dieu du ciel can do. mabel (1583), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 8, 2008 [1412-20080530] Tap. French vanilla milled soap aroma has a bit of toasted malt. Clear, dark brown red body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head and thick lacing. More French vanilla and faint wood in the flavour with a bitter background. Medium-full body is mildly boozy. Nice, unexpected notables.
(@ Dieu du Ciel!; Montreal, QC) Lubiere (3182), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jun 29, 2008 A deep clear brown ale with mahogany hues and a thin dark moka head. A nice floral hops in aroma with citrus notes, and nuttyness. In mouth, like a rich rich nutty IPA, with light chocolate notes. If this was a blind tasting, I would have thought this was a regular IPA. On tap at brewpub June 14, 2008.
