Commercial Description:
If you love really good coffee and really good beer equally, you will be thrilled with Péché Mortel. If coffee isn’t your cup of tea, and caffeine makes you bounce off the ceiling, then just put the bottle down and find something else to drink. This beer is all about coffee. Indeed, you may have seen ‘coffee stouts’ before, but no brewer has ever married coffee and beer so naturally and seamlessly.
And this isn’t just any stout, but an imperial stout, which means that it is modeled on the strong, rich, and very complex stouts that were made in England in the 19th and early 20th centuries exclusively for shipment to Russia, where they were a special favorite at the court of the Czars.

My 1100th rating! Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- my bottle courtesy of hopdog. Bottled August ’05. I’ve been saving this bottle for one of my milestones for a while now and I’ve really been looking forward to it! It did not dissapoint. Pours pitch black with an average size diminishing creamy tan head. Awesome aroma with tons of coffee, dark malt, toffee, bourbon, chocolate, hops and more -- man that smells good! Sweet delicious flavour of predominently coffee followed by roasted malt, cocoa and hops. Alcohol is extremely well hidden. Medium bodied, dry & creamy mouthfeel. This was so effin’ good that I can’t wait to someday try this on tap, damn Dieu Du Ciel! makes good beer.

This is one great beer. A terrific Imperial Stout with that beautifully balanced addition of coffee. I could drink this every day.

pours an oily black with a thick light brown head. aroma is sweet and balanced of coffee and chocolate. first sip is strong of coffee, but as the beer warms, there are more noticeable flavors of hops, chocolate, a little bit of pepper, and spice. mouth is close to perfect, simply smooth on the tongue. I’m a big fan of coffee stout so when I saw this at Whole Foods and immediatly knew it had to be a winner.

Bottle courtesy of growler. Pours deep black with tan head. Strong burnt malt aroma. Lots of coffee and roasted malt flavors. Full body with minimal carbonation and a very smooth mouthfeel.

Poured nearly black into a snifter. Not quite viscous. The head was tan and offered up some lacing. The aroma was as much coffee as I can remember in a beer. Like Breakfast Stout without the chocolate. Like Juan Valdez’s nutsack. The flavor was coffee, roasted malt, chocolate and some dry hoppiness. Nice thick mouthfeel and a succinct finish. Very good, just kind of one dimensional.

Pours coal black into a pint sleeve. Thick rocky head lasts long and laces the glass. Aroma of coffee really comes through. Excellent example of imperial, This stuff is royal. Full bodied imperial stout flavor and a glass of espresso to boot! Beautiful beer.
