4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 GregClow (2645) - Toronto, - JUL 16, 2006
UPDATED: FEB 11, 2008 RE-RATE: Draught (12 oz.) at Dieu du Ciel! After drinking this at the brewpub itself, I had to bump up my rating of this. Most of what I wrote below still stands, but the draught version had a fuller, richer body that made it even better. Just spectacular.
ORIGINAL RATING: Bottle shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry, jerc and tupalev - courtesy of blankboy. Aug/05 bottle. Deep brown-black colour with a moderate tan head. Aroma of fresh roasted coffee, dark malt, bourbon and fresh herbs - fantastic! Mouthfeel is thinner than I expect from an impy, so that was a bit of a disappointment. Flavour is dry and delicious, with lots of coffee and cocoa, roasted malt, green hops, and a hint of sour milk. If the body were just a bit bigger, this would be damn near perfect. [9/4/9/3/17 - 4.2]
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 scoobysnak (310) - Appleton, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 8, 2012
Pours very dark with an almost syrupy consistency. The head went away very fast. The taste is heavy with alcohol predominately, with a background of raisins, dates, chocolate and smoke.

Bottle shared @ Ölrepubliken. Pours oily black with a small deep brown head that quickly dissipates while leaving some lacing on the glass. Smell is huge with peat, chocolate, coffee, wood, smoke and alcohol. Taste is sweet and bitter with chocolates, dates, raisins, prunes, liquorice, lots of quality coffee, heavily roasted malts and peat. finish is dry and bitter with lots of good coffee. Incredibly balanced and incredibly good.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 orangesol (232) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 26, 2012
Bottle poured into a nonic pint.
A - Pours ink black with a nice one and a half finger tall mocha head leaving small streaks of lace down the glass.
S - Smells of fresh brewed coffee, chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, cherries, and lots of dark roast. The dark roast is strong but the additional aromas really keep it in check.
T - Starts off with a nice espresso kick slowly giving way to a mix of bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, cherries, and even more dark roast. Very little alcohol initially with a bit more coming through as it warms up. Finish is pretty roasty with a touch of sweetness, lingering on the pallet for some time.
M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Smooth, roasty feel that lingers on the pallet for some time.
O - Easily one of the best stouts for your money. Tons of tasty flavors and very little alcohol detectable. The perfect beer for a cold winter night.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 reebtogi (1528) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 26, 2012
341ml bottle pours deep black in color with a 3 finger beige head that retains quite well and leaves some good looking lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark roasted malts and chocolate and coffee. Taste is roasted malt bitterness and some sweetness from the chocolate and other malts. I found the coffee flavors a little overpowering, otherwise this is an excellent quality stout and would have received higher marks.
4.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Jool (27) - - JAN 25, 2012
Bouteille 341mL. Noire opaque. Nez de cafe et de chocolat noir d’intensite moyenne. Bouche cremeuse de chocolat noir et moka. Tres long en bouche avec une finale de malt et cassonade. Grande biere.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hivemind (349) - New York, New York, USA - JAN 21, 2012
Bottle bought at a store in Montreal over Igloofest weekend. Split with Paul in the apt last night. Black pour, cocoa-colored head that isn’t too big. Nose is really rich chocolate and coffee. Taste is pretty much the same. A tad on the roasty side, which isn’t always my favorite, but it wasn’t too overpowering. Nice, drinkable mouthfeel. Beats (but doesn’t blow out of the water) every other coffee stout I’ve had.
