Tap at BarHop. Deep black - creamy tan head. The aroma is awesome. Coffee and soft vanilla barrel character. A touch of pepper and some soft oak flavour. Really soft and chewy. A touch of lingering heat but it’s well integrated. Lovely stuff.

From 341 ml bottle in tulip. Beautiful black color with almost no head. Intense coffee aroma with some hints of Bourbon. Same flavors on the mouth. The Bourbon notes are clearly there and turn the whole drink into a boozy coffee-like beer. Vanilla and oak barrels add to the complexity of this beer. Creamy mouth feel. I am not a big fan of Bourbon barrel aged beers but this one is perfectly done.

Massive coffee aroma, fresh coffee dominates over pretty much everything else but its nice somehow, even as a non-coffee drinker. (8+) Flavour is also coffee dominant, dry bitterness it actually seems like a lot more coffee and more bitter than I recall it being before. Light boozy undertones at times. Touch of wood? Not much, it might even be my imagination really. Coffee is rich but starts to be a bit much by the bottom of the glass. (8+) Smooth medium to full body is very smooth but feels less like it is on nitro than usual. (I’m curious to know how it was being served.)

Dark brown pour, tan head. Nose is big coffee, booze, dark fruits. Taste is fresh coffee, chocolate, dark fruits, smoothness from the barrel. Light silky smooth mouthfeel which works for this beer.

Bottle from Brewdog, into snifter. Bottled Nov 2013. Black, big tan head doesn’t endure that long. Aroma has some paint and booze, caramel and vanilla fudge, bounty bar, touch of apple maybe, lightly metallic. Body is medium, slightly foamy, low carbonation. Taste is spicy, some earth, charred wood, just a touch of alcohol in the finish. Easy drinking for the style. Aroma is more interesting than the flavour.

Scopey (7094) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 27, 2014
2013 bottle from BrewDog CJ. It pours jet black with a medium tan head. The nose is rich roast, espresso coffee, toasty coconut, vanilla, marshmallow, dark chocolate, tobacco, brown sugar and bourbon. The taste is smooth, lightly bitter, rich roast, coffee, bourbon, toasty, warming alcohol, mild smoke, medicinal, chocolate ice-cream, vanilla and oak with a roasty finish. Full body, fine carbonation and slick mouth-feel. All comes together rather well. Smells spectacular and don’t taste too shabby either. Pretty brilliant.

Bottle - pour dark brown with tan head. A slight bourbon aroma with coffee and chocolate notes. More coffee and chocolate in the taste. The feel is creamy and smooth. In the end, I think the bourbon muted what is so good about the non BA version.
