Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Wow, almost like drinking carbonated coffee/ The amorma is like waking up to a fresh pot with hint of chocolate. Pours rick and dark with a small cream colored head. taste is coffee coffee with a bitter hoppy after taste.

This beer came highly recommended, and it is always a pleasure to try a beer as highly rated as this one. RIS is a very popular style these days, and there are certainly many of them - this one, as advertised had a very heavy dose of coffee. It was a nice blend of sweetness and dry roastiness ("burned pizza crust"). Color was black. Body was viscous. Head was non-existent. Aroma was coffee-ish; dry, roast-y, and pretty bitter. Flavor was the same, but the dry-roastiness was balanced with some milk-stout sweetness. Mouthfeel was very slick, and pretty thick. Quite solid. Highly recommended. I bought this bottle at Blacklick Liquor on Broad St. Probably not worth the $5.89 for a 12oz bottle I paid, but quite good nonetheless.

Bottle. Wow. Pours a thick, viscous, oily black, with a presistent and lacy dark tan head. Big cappuccino aroma, with roasted barley, chocolate, fruit, great! Palate was both intense yet surprisngly drinkable. Huge coffee throughout, with more complexity than I would expect from even the best cup of coffee. Just floored me.

Pours like two stroke oil, coating the glass. Dark tan head forms, starchy nose. The coffee shows up on the palate, creamy middle, bitter hops finish. This really was easy to drink, all things in balance.

11.5oz bottle from CBX. pours a lovely, slightly thick onyx, with a thin, dark cocoa head and a ring of lace. aroma is absolutely wonderful with huge roast coffee and espresso notes, dark chocolate, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and the slightest hint of vinous red fruits. flavor is truly spectacular with huge, bitter, dark roasted coffee and german chocolate cake up front, backed by notes of roasted pistachio, plantains, brown sugar and cinnamon oatmeal, vanilla beans, and a touch of smoked wood leaving a long, bittersweet, roasted coffee finish. palate smooth and full bodied with medium carbonation. overall, one of the best damn coffee stouts out there.

11.5oz bottle. Pours dark with minimal foam. However carbonation is still appropriate. Served a little too cold, flavor was not immediately all there but as this brew warmed to the correct serving temperature the flavor intensified. Great beer will have to try to get my hands on a 22 oz bottle because I am told they are slightly better to age.
