Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Pours from the bottle to a jet black with thick brown head that lingers well and leaves okay lacing. Aroma is strong coffee, roasted malty nuts and a hint of chocolate. Mouthfeel was full and rich, and the ttaste took the coffee and roasted nuts of the nose up a notch. At 9.5%, I was a little surprised that the alcohol never made itself known in either the nose or taste. This all rounded to a somewhat sweet, long and warming finish.

Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of toasted, molasses and mild coffee, light resin and earth for the hops and yeast, with milk , alcohol, tar and faint spice in the background. Head is large, frothy, light brown, with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is black. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then the long finish is moderately acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is full, creamy with a soft carbonation and finishes dry, chalky and sticky. A powerful and enjoyable Imperial Stout.

Bottle. Pours black with a tan head, to much and sharp carbonation for higher appearance and palate rating. Coffe, malt, smoke, chocolate. Big body and lots of flavours even when cold.

Bottle. L: Black, brown head. S: Lot’s and lot’s of coffee, bitter dark chocolate, small smokeiness. T: Sweet at first, COFFEE, cream, some roasted taste (roasted coffee beans). Ov: Good IS. The taste is a little short and it’s too coffee dominated.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark dark body with great lacing. The aroma is strong coffee and something sweet, maybe hazelnut or mocha beans. The taste is very coffee dominated, but great beer - no alcohol in the taste.
