Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

12 oz bottle: Nearly black in color and topped by a thin tan head. Big roasty aroma with coffee, milk chocolate and smoke all noticeable. Espresso flavors blend with some slight milky caramel sweetness and some light notes of raisin and other dark fruits. Finish is dry, bitter and roasted.

Que dire de ce classique québécois. Très bon mélange de café,chocolat et alcool qui termine très bien une soirée.

Wow. Pours jet black with a small creamy head. Aroma is obnoxious sweet and dry and coffee. Flavor is tart and bitter, with tons of dried fruit, yeast, chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt, excellent.

11.5 oz bottle. Pours black with a gorgeous thick full tan head. Aroma is, as they say, all about coffee, of course with a bit more. Very rich and fresh coffee and a nice bitter bitter chocolate cocoa bean character. Just a slight hint of dark fruit and spiciness but background to the coffee and cocoa. Flavor, well it took the coffee to another level. A definite coffee bean and black coffee sort of bitterness rides throughout but never becomes overly bitter someone, stays at the perfect level. Fantastic all around with a medium to full body and not sticky or too heavy with no hint of alcohol.

Bottle from Parti-Pak Liquors (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a murky dark brown to black with thin tan head. Aroma is slightly musty with notes of roasted coffee, chocolate, some faint caramel and toffee sweetness. Flavor is malty and roasted with notes of coffee, chocolate, toffee, raisins, some ripe dark fruits, caramel and hints of molasses. Generally full body with a pleasing roasted coffee finish.

11.5 oz bottle, pours a nice dark to opaque color. Has a huge head of tiny fine bubbles. Has a mocha brownish head also Aroma is pure roasted coffe with hint of sweetness and choclate. I also got some raisin and dark fruits in there. Body is pretty full to me with some nice carbonation Taste is rich and silky. Maybe some oatmeal in there for that. After the initial taste as it rolls on the back of the palate you start to get the dark fruits and hops to come through. This is a nice coffee stout. Thanks to jonathan for sharing this. Black colour with a dirty dark tan head. Strong oaked aroma which overrides the malt .
