jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Feb 17, 2009 11.5oz bottle @Tampa Wkly Gathering–pours a light brown head that laces and black color. Aroma is anise, ashy, some acidic. As it warms coffee too. Taste is coffee-dark malt, ashy, some acidic hops. Not my taste but nice. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Feb 16, 2009 Thanks group for the share. Pours dark black/ brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasted coffee, vanilla, earth, and roasted malts. Flavor is dark malt, dark coffee, chocolate, and some milky qualities. Incredible, and very nice. Full bodied and enjoyable- I wish it was available in Florida. ChrisThomson (377), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 15, 2009 I first had this one in CPH in 2008. This one pours a thick black colour with minimal brown head.Has a complex chocolate and espresso taste with enough sweetness to balance the alcohol. Clearly one of the best canadian beers. DuffMan (2719), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Feb 14, 2009 Thick pour, black, with a slow-to-rise brown cap. Sweet coffee cake aroma, very intense! Palate is heavy and velvety, rich layers of sweet chocolate and strong french roast coffee. Finish is long, dry, and a little salty. Wow this is fantastic! Thanks for getting this to me Trev-- a fitting brew for my last Canadian beer for 6 months! Off to New Zealand... DalzAle (473), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Feb 13, 2009 Bottle. Dark black pour with minimal carbonation. Aroma was espresso and not much else. Flavor was robust coffee and a little bit of vanilla on the finish. Very smooth and no notice of alcohol, which is surprising consifering the 9.5 ABV. Wish this one was easier to get and a little cheaper. Sonicdescent (372), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 13, 2009 Worth the hype, and rather easy to come by to boot! Coffee Coffee Coffee, from the look, to the smell, to the taste. The only weak spot in this beer is the Palate, I was hoping for something slightly chewier from a stout this robust. Nitpicking aside, this is a fantastic beer. gunnfryd (3539), Kristiansand, Norway Feb 11, 2009 Bottle. Black colour with a tan head. Aroma is coffee, roasted, hop. Flavour is coffee, roasted, smoked, alcohol, hop, cacao. Full bodied beer. world class beer. SamGamgee (1394), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Feb 8, 2009 Updated: Aug 2, 2009Rerate: 11.5oz bottle again. Something must have been off in that last bottle, because this is delicious stuff. Pitch black with a medium tan head. Big mocha aroma, with just a hint of greener coffee bean, but plenty of dark roasted coffee and dark chocolate, with a slight smokey, burnt quality. The flavor is massive coffee and sweet and roasty malt. Teetering on burnt, but not really falling over the edge. Bitter like espresso in the finish, with light acidity. Full bodied and smooth. Very much like eating a bitter, espresso filled chocolate truffle. Almost like coffee with beer in it, but I like it.
11.5oz bottle. Black with a medium tan head that settles to a sparse foam slick. Slightly burnt green vegetal coffee aroma. It’s a bit harsh to start but after thirty minutes or so, it mellows into a simply sweet and stale coffee aroma. A bit sweet on the tongue, but with an over-roasted and vegetal coffee character, that ends on an alcoholic and slightly burnt bitterness. Syrupy but also a little thin. I don’t get this one. tastes like they burnt the coffee beans and then let the coffee sit out overnight before adding it to the beer. Honestly hard to finish this one. (4,4,5,3,8=2.4)
