cmonster (73), Portland, Oregon, USA Feb 8, 2009 11.5 oz bottle served in a snifter. Appearance is midnight black, no head with minimal brown lacing. The sweet, complex aroma contains subtle raspberry and vanilla nut coffee notes. There is lively carbonation on the initial attack with a finish of dense chocolate fudge cake served with premium black coffee. Rich. Right near the top of my list. MrRain (415), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Feb 8, 2009 12oz bottle poured into a glass. This dark brown beer pours with a chocolate milk-looking head. The aroma is nice, rich and sweet with the expected suspects playing a prominant role along with something sweet like sugared prunes. The flavor is a wonderful arrangement of alcohol, coffee and dark malts. The body is thick and syrupy and refuses to let you forgot what you’re drinking. Many thanks to french tickler for this beer. Fred82 (343), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Feb 7, 2009 341ml bottle couple times, Pours nice deep black with nice "café latté" creamy head. Already in love with the beer right after pouring it. Powerfull aroma of dark chocolate. Quite unique and caracteristic. Taste is also dark chocolate and cofee. nice bitterness in the finish that reminds dark 80% chocolate. Alcohol barely noticable but adds a nice touch to the overall experience. I’m not always in the mood for that beer but quite satisfying when the timing is right. Definately an awesome beer.Rating no 12. 070209 lakersfan16 (53), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Feb 3, 2009 12 oz. bottle.
Pours pitch black with a gorgeous dark brown head. One of the best aroma’s I’ve ever experienced. The complexity of this beer is also amazing. Chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and oak all combining perfectly.
This is one of the 5 best beer’s I’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy. Jsawyer (282), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 3, 2009 Bottle. Poured Deep midnight black with a beautiful chocolate head that laced profusely. Aroma was predominantly chocolate syrup, vanilla, oak, and coffee. Sexy. Flavor was chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, oaky phenolic finish. Palate was slightly viscous but lighter than I expected given the syrupy aroma and visibily thick body. Also had a little bite at the end but nothing to worry about. Very good beer. bedainedebiere (274), Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada Feb 2, 2009 Updated: May 24, 2009God they brew good beers! This one has the highest rating for a bottled Quebec-made beer. Englsh-Canada doesn’t have a single brew rated this high, I think... In your face! Although there are a lot of very high-rated imperial stouts on this site, very few are available in Québec. No stout whatsoever brewed in Québec is as good, only Bièropholie’s Impériale Stout comes a little close. Coffee dominates every other possible taste but there is a complexity of flavors in that rich and thick brew. The bitterness is quite obvious in the finish but the alchool, even at 9.5%, is barely distinguishable. Excellent beer! A must-try for any beer-loving Montreal tourist that has the well advised idea to visit the Dieu du Ciel Pub on Laurier street. At least a few of their brews ought to be tried... The stronger ones especially... JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Feb 2, 2009 12oz bottle during the Super Bowl. Pours black with a medium tan head. Coffee nose with some creamy vanilla and chocolate character. Malty and creamy sweet up front, with a huge coffee finish. Should not have started off with this one because I have a feeling nothing is going to top it. Dogbrick (2807), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 2, 2009 Thanks to JaBier for sharing a bottle. The beer pours completely black with a medium thick light brown head that dissipates slowly. Top craggy ring of lacing with spots underneath. Strong black coffee aroma with notes of semi-sweet chocolate and malt. Rich body with flavors of espresso, roasted malt and hops. The finish is intensely roasty with a moderately bitter coffee and hops aftertaste that lingers for some time. Very good overall.
