nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Jan 29, 2009 Updated: May 23, 200912oz bottle for breakfast on Christmas morning 2008 (hell yeah). A nice RIS - not the best but very good. Black and heavy with a two-finger brown head. Strong coffee/roasted malt aroma. Flavor is lots of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and alcohol on the finish. Palate is pretty thick, not quite as heavy as some "extreme" RISes. Agaguk (117), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jan 28, 2009 Black very thick appearence with a thick brown head and lacing. Aroma: espresso, chocolate, tobacco, vanilla and roasted malt. Flavor: coffee, chocolate, caramel, fudge, cocoa and vanilla. Palate: Full thick creamy body with an oily finish. Scubatrip (387), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Jan 28, 2009 From the bottle, courtesy of Secret Santa 08, pours black with a thick foamy tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is distinctly coffee/espresso, with some black roasted malts. Taste is rather similar, mostly coffee flavors, not too bitter, and really easy to drink. Not a big coffee drinker, so the smooth finish is a good thing in my book. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Jan 27, 2009 Bottle. It looks just delicious in the glass, with a jet black body and a small, dense brown head on top. Wonderful aroma with roasted malts, coffee doing a lot of the job, and some alcohol to give a little punch in the nose. Lovely coffee-like flavor with sweetness to prevent it from going all dry, burnt malts, and bitterness from hops and also a coffee-like malty bitterness. Smooth as hell, quite dry, full-bodied and a bit warming. Lasting finish with hoppy and coffee-like bitterness and some alcohol. Just f’ing lovely. I’m soo sad I didn’t buy more of it. Aromas strong of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, and burnt sugar. Flavor is outstanding with tons of coffee, sweet chocolate, and finishing so viscus and smooth. Awesome, awesome brew! aplusbreaks (330), , Colorado, USA Jan 23, 2009 12oz bottle thanks to Hophead22.
Pours an impenetrable black with a thick mocha head. Aromas of coffee and dark chocolate. If you’ve ever had chocolate covered coffee beans, that’s what Péché Mortel smells like. Flavors of bitter chocolate, coffee, and dark roasted malts. Full bodied and nicely carbonated. Alcohol is well hidden. Thanks Again Tim. tarheels86 (700), Washington DC, USA Jan 22, 2009 Rating 300! Bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop in Durham. Pours almost opaque black with a thick, tan head that has good retention and magnificent lacing. Aromas of cocoa powder, dark unsweetened chocolate, roasted coffee, and vanilla. Taste is well balanced and not too sweet or bitter. Lots of roasted malt and coffee with a background of dry hops. Burnt sugar and roasty finish with some spicy alcohol. This is the least artificial smelling and tasting coffee stout I have tried. Very natural in every way. Alcohol is beautifully masked. Excellent! jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Jan 22, 2009 Black with a thick tan head. Aroma is mocha, cocoa, chocolate, and roasted malts. Taste is of chocolate and cappuccino.
