God they brew good beers! This one has the highest rating for a bottled Quebec-made beer. Englsh-Canada doesn’t have a single brew rated this high, I think... In your face! Although there are a lot of very high-rated imperial stouts on this site, very few are available in Québec. No stout whatsoever brewed in Québec is as good, only Bièropholie’s Impériale Stout comes a little close. Coffee dominates every other possible taste but there is a complexity of flavors in that rich and thick brew. The bitterness is quite obvious in the finish but the alchool, even at 9.5%, is barely distinguishable. Excellent beer! A must-try for any beer-loving Montreal tourist that has the well advised idea to visit the Dieu du Ciel Pub on Laurier street. At least a few of their brews ought to be tried... The stronger ones especially...

12oz bottle during the Super Bowl. Pours black with a medium tan head. Coffee nose with some creamy vanilla and chocolate character. Malty and creamy sweet up front, with a huge coffee finish. Should not have started off with this one because I have a feeling nothing is going to top it.

Thanks to JaBier for sharing a bottle. The beer pours completely black with a medium thick light brown head that dissipates slowly. Top craggy ring of lacing with spots underneath. Strong black coffee aroma with notes of semi-sweet chocolate and malt. Rich body with flavors of espresso, roasted malt and hops. The finish is intensely roasty with a moderately bitter coffee and hops aftertaste that lingers for some time. Very good overall.

12oz bottle for breakfast on Christmas morning 2008 (hell yeah). A nice RIS - not the best but very good. Black and heavy with a two-finger brown head. Strong coffee/roasted malt aroma. Flavor is lots of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and alcohol on the finish. Palate is pretty thick, not quite as heavy as some "extreme" RISes.

Black very thick appearence with a thick brown head and lacing. Aroma: espresso, chocolate, tobacco, vanilla and roasted malt. Flavor: coffee, chocolate, caramel, fudge, cocoa and vanilla. Palate: Full thick creamy body with an oily finish.

From the bottle, courtesy of Secret Santa 08, pours black with a thick foamy tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is distinctly coffee/espresso, with some black roasted malts. Taste is rather similar, mostly coffee flavors, not too bitter, and really easy to drink. Not a big coffee drinker, so the smooth finish is a good thing in my book.

Bottle. It looks just delicious in the glass, with a jet black body and a small, dense brown head on top. Wonderful aroma with roasted malts, coffee doing a lot of the job, and some alcohol to give a little punch in the nose. Lovely coffee-like flavor with sweetness to prevent it from going all dry, burnt malts, and bitterness from hops and also a coffee-like malty bitterness. Smooth as hell, quite dry, full-bodied and a bit warming. Lasting finish with hoppy and coffee-like bitterness and some alcohol. Just f’ing lovely. I’m soo sad I didn’t buy more of it. (081127)

12oz. poured into A&W mug. Pour is very black with thick foamy dark brown head. Aromas strong of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, and burnt sugar. Flavor is outstanding with tons of coffee, sweet chocolate, and finishing so viscus and smooth. Awesome, awesome brew!
