MAP (1085), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Aug 30, 2008 This is my first rating since 3.2.2006 and from what I recall this was one of the most sought after beers. I must say that I am not disappointed. Standard high octane stout look, dark viscous black and a thin head. The aroma is impressive. Tons of roasted coffee, malt and a hint of citrus in the aroma. The flavor follows through beautifully with the marriage of coffee, maltiness and bitterness at the end. This is extremely nice on the palate, not think and sticky like some imperial stouts, but smooth until the coffee gets in there with the alcohol. Very impressive and worth the wait. demitriustown (689), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA Aug 30, 2008 11.5 oz bottle: Aroma is deep dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, coffee, and a bit nutty. Wonderful aroma all around. Appearance is jet black with a thick tan head that lingers at the top of the glass. Taste has got a wonderful melding of coffee up front, roasted dark malts, almost a milky sensation on the tongue, sweet chocolate. Aftertaste has a lingering chocolate, malt, and lightly bitter taste. Somewhat sweet on the lips, tongue coating, and just delicious. OVerall, This is a damn good Impy coffee stout. Not too overblown and just the right amount of intermingling flavors makes this a winner. Cheers! Blom (390), Odense, Denmark Aug 29, 2008 Black with a low grey head. Amazing aroma of coffee, cocoa and black chocolate fills the glass! And the flavour just absolutely stuns me. It starts out sweet and bitter like cafe latte, and then the bitterness really starts sneaking in with earthy notes below. It is full bodied with a creamy texture and carries its percentages frightingly well. This is really a sublime brew... One of the best brews I’ve tasted so far. It certainly blew me away. paytoplay (121), , California, USA Aug 28, 2008 WOW brew for me. Dark rich with some coco and coffee nibs. Cleaned up with nice acidity and no noticable alcohol. I could see this brew aging quite well for a couple of years. Would seek this out again though I haven’t seen it out west. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Aug 28, 2008 Pour is a thick black with a small tan head. Aroma is a extremly roasted malt with lots of coffee and some follow up alcohol. Flavor is intense coffee with again loads of roasted malt and strong dark chocolate. Finish leaves a roasted quality all over the palate. Pretty expensive at $5 a bottle but this is a tasty treat especially if you like your coffee strong and black. incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA Aug 28, 2008 Black as night. Smell of burnt logs and dark roast coffee. Lots and lots of burnt roasty malt and coffee. Fair amount of balance for a big coffee stout. Coffee brews are my favorite, and this was right up there with the best of them. NoiZe (1288), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands Aug 28, 2008 Very dark black colored brew. Strong aroma of coffee, espresso-beans, roasted malty goodness :) Flavor is very well balanced if you let it rest for a while. Smooth coffee flavor with some chocolates and other roasted malts. A bit creamy even. Very good warming mouthfeel. Very nice. Nightfall (645), Athens, Greece Aug 26, 2008 Small bottle found at Beer Paradise in Holstebro. Pitch black with small dark head. Aroma is full of great qulaity coffee and some roasted malt. Flavor is again string coffee, roasted malts and some vanilla flavor lingering in the back. Extremely well made.
