Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Huge thanks to GMCC2181 for sending me a few of these. This is a big big impy stout. This thing is nothing but coffee. Aroma is coffee, flavor is coffee, this thing even looks like coffee! Add to that a big alcoholic bite, and you have this beer. Texture is nice and thick. Boozy in spots, which I didn’t care for, but I really liked the over the top coffee nature. I wouldn’t quite rank this up with the big boys, but as a coffee stout, it was quite good. Porbably just below Bells Java Stout. Thanks again Gabe, I like this one a lot!

Bottle (34 cl) from Ölbutikken, Copenhagen, Denmark. Black, medium beige head. Dark chocolate aroma with soft coffee notes and citric hops. Medium bodied and smooth. Dry and bitter.

Black with a small, brown head. Aroma of vanilla, toffe, light fruit and coffe. Taste of coffe, vanilla, slightly tart fruit and chocolate. Dry, roasted and complex aftertaste. A bit too light bodied but I guess that makes it appear as a bit more sophisticated and less rough.

12 oz bottle. Poured as black as could be, thick, like motor oil thick. Nose was huge, coffee, vanilla, chocolate. Taste that followed was similar. This beer is the real deal stout, delicious and so drinkable. Top notch beer

Pours a deep black. Aroma of chocolate and strong coffee. Taste is dominated by coffee at first, then finishes a bit sour. Pretty awesome Imp Stout.

Very rich and dark. Lots of chocolate. Tart/sour taste follows like a good Duck Rabbit. Lots of coffee indeed. Not intense roasty coffee flavor....but almost like coffee grounds. Very nice. Lives up to the reputation.

Pours like motor oil from the bottle with a trim tan head of foam. Perhaps I was the only person expecting the flavor of Peach, but the aroma quickly corrects any misunderstanding regarding what this beer is about: COFFEE. Reminds me very much of Founder’s Kentucky Breakfast, yet this brew finishes with a tart flavor similar to sucking on a peach pit.
