Dieu du Ciel Péché Mortel

12 oz. bottle. Pours black with a smallish tan head that quickly recedes to a ring around the top. Aroma is all coffee and roastiness. The flavor is much the same. Pretty smooth, very dark, and full of roast. This one’s pretty damn good, but a little too much roast with not quite enough to balance.

Bottled. Dark brown colour. Brownish head. Coffee in the nose. Strong taste of coffee. Bier or coffee or biercoffee. Strong malt in the taste. Also some smoke in the taste. Little bit sticky. Some bite of hops in the end.

POurs a nice black color with a brown color head, not as viscus as i would have predicted. Aroma is of coffee, strong burnt black coffee. Flavor is pretty much the ame, strong burnt coffee, some smoke and a nice dark chocolate hidden in there. Very interesting stout.

I view many high ratings of impy stouts as a product of beer geek bias toward so-called big beers, but Péché Mortel deserves the acclaim. It looks great: creamy, resilient tan head over an opaque black body. It smells great: a complex mix of roasted grains, chocolate, coffee grounds and prunes — but no burnt or overly-bitter aromas. It tastes great: nice bittersweet chocolate flavour with a dry roasty finish. Alcohol only became apparent toward the end as it warmed. Full-bodied and smooth, too. I’m not a fan of this style, but I’m happy to have tried this beer.

Draught @ Mondial 08’. Brilliant Stout that is now one of my favorites. Deep black pur with creamy tan head. Choc., Coffe, and black forrest fruits. Thick and viscous. Bitterness in the back. Well crafted, subtle, and damn near perfect.

341 ml bottle, shared with Sølve. The body is black. Lovely brown head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, coffee, dark fruit and roasted malt. Flavor has the same elements, but also liqorice. Some bitterness in the aftertaste. Lovely imperial stout!

An old rating i finally got to entering. From the first 22 oz US bomber release. Aroma was of straight coffee still and some chocolate came through but not much else. Flavor was solid. Dark for a stout but not real dark.

bottle. Thick, opaque, heavy black pour. Surprisingly big medium brown head that foams up with no signs of clearing. Thick aromas of burnt malt and a huge dose of coffee (suprise!). Flavors of unsweetened coffee and big heavy chunks of roasted malt. Some middling bitterness hangs around too. Holds the 9.5% very well- no excessive booze heat. Finish/mouthfeel is superb- very thick, smooth, and silky on the palate. Superb coffee stout- possibly better from the bottle than previous samples from the tap??
