Gr0ve (1382), Oslo, Norway Jun 14, 2008 341 ml bottle. Pitch black. Tall browni fine-laced head that clings to the glass. Strong juniper and piney aroma. Bold coffee flavour. Smooth milky chocolate flavour. Flavour much in contrast with the aroma. Sharp vs. soft. Texture is really soft with a smooth mouthfeel. Lots of coffee. Very delicate and sharp at the same time. Extremely interesting beer with a lot of facets. Oily finish. Lots of malts. Very nice. austone (998), Turku; Pori, Finland Jun 14, 2008 Black w/ small brown head. Dry coffee & roasted nose. Flavor is sweet roasted coffee, burned syrupy malts. Soft and balanced. Nice, but a bit of a one trick pony. MrBeerFanatic (344), jamestown, New York, USA Jun 13, 2008 Pours black with a brown/tan frothy slowly dissapating head. Smells somewhat strongly of coffee, chocolate, and hints of caramel. Has a sweet/powerful taste of coffee, coffee and coffee. There is also flavors of coffee beans, hints of chocolate and a little caramel but hard to notice as the coffee really takes charge in the flavor. Very rich, complex, tasty, well balenced, smooth and creamy. I’ve never had a stout quite like this one, as it is very unique. If you love coffee/expresso’s you must try this brew!!!! One of the best brews I’ve had in a long time I must. Wow... Hangover (764), Atlanta, USA Jun 13, 2008 Dark black pour with a huge and delicious looking caramel colored head. Heavy coffee aroma with some chocolate, roasty and slightly burnt notes with some nuttiness. Mouthfeel is creamy, smooth and... smooth. Bitter on the palette, warming booze towards the middle which doesn’t stop until much later. There is a really complex, dark coffee flavor in this one. Somehow it remains balanced with a faint and prickly hoppy finish. This is a great freaking brew. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Jun 13, 2008 Pours deep brown with no head. The nose is coffee, pepper, chocolate and vanilla. The flavor is the same along with some earthiness. Tons of complexities. A true experience. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 10, 2008 Updated: Jul 12, 200812 oz. I’ve been after this for a good while, it better be good... Dark, dark brown, opaque pour with a dense and fine tan head. Looks great. Coffee (dominant), smoky campfire, belgian cocoa, and hops in the aroma. Dark, concentrated, dried fruit type aroma - dates, prunes, figs, raisins. Earthy and musty qualities also. Flavor is balanced up front, and gives way to a tannic, dark chocolate finish. Cherries and citrusy orange zest component too. Lingering bitter finish, espresso. Excellent overall, more of a fruity component than I was expecting. Points for being a little different. I’ve got another bottle I’m going to sit on for a while. Nicely brewed. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jun 9, 2008 12oz bottle. Served at cellar temperature. Smelled of coffee and subdued chocolate. Poured an opaque black color. Light brown crema with an orange tint. It retained its height fairly well, but eventually settled to a thin film. Fairly effervescent. Bitter and roasty on the tongue with lots of dry coffee flavor. There was also a hint of burnt stick. At 9.5%, the alcohol aroma and flavor were well hidden. A bit of dark fruit came out at the end. Not as thick and chewy as most imperial stouts. This is a good beer, but a bit overrated I think. Probably not worth the high price of admission. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Jun 9, 2008 Bottle courtesy of HogtownHarry, thanks a lot for this one Harry! Dark, black liquid poured from the 12 oz bottle, and left a frothy, creamy, mocha head that lasted. In the nose, I got freshly brewed black coffee, rich dark chocolate, some vanilla, with a touch of wood smoke and hops. The flavour profile was quite enjoyable to me, as I love coffee. Fresh dark roast with loads of bittering hops, vanilla, dry, bitter dark chocolate, some smoke. Bitter with long lived coffee aftertaste. Creamy, and very drinkable considering the ABV. Quite a treat. Thank you Harry! :)
