tylerss20 (101), New Hampshire, USA Jun 2, 2008 Success. Tasting at Julio’s 6/1. Delicious rich coffee aroma. Smooth like Santana. This is a fantastic stout. Sticky, sweet, a bit smoky. Dessert in a bottle. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Jun 2, 2008 Updated: Oct 26, 200922oz bottle/draft/12oz bottle. Pours a black body with a tan head. Aroma is loads of coffee, chocolate, some etoh. The flavor is incredibly well blended coffee and some smoke with a good roasted but creamy flavor of chocolate. I love this time after time. 4.3
After having the 04 vintage at the 10th anniversary party and IMO the f’in stand out beer of the party i have to bump this a few points, this beer is truely phenominal when served in this manner. The fresh 12oz bottles cant stand up to the aging process. Awesome! 4.6 pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 1, 2008 341ml brown bottle from Goldorak. Bottled 11/07. Pours black, as I hold the glass up to the light, nothing penetrates. I only see myself reflected. Thick layer of tan foam on top, creamy sticky edges. Strong roasted coffee nose, hints of cocoa, getting a trace of alcohol tucked in behind. Coffee flavour is upfront, bittersweet chocolate behind. Hop flavour and bitterness quite pronouced. A little warming sensation in the mouth from the alcohol, but it’s solely a warming effect, not boozy or sharp. It seems to enhance the experience. Full body, carbonation is tight and persistent. Excellent stout, I am looking forward to more from this brewer. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Jun 1, 2008 Pours jet black with a thick tan head. Strong aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate, molasses, and licorice. Flavor has many of the same notes. The sweet malts and coffee present right up front and then disappear leaving a strong lasting bitter coffee finish. Mouthfeel is medium/thick and carbonation is medium/high. An excellent beer that might even be better with age. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 1, 2008 11.5 oz. Big, lasting cappuccino foam on this black beer. Aroma is espresso and the just-brewed grounds, and some char. Flavor is mocha with extra dark-roasted coffee, brown sugar, a touch of cream, char, chicory, caramel, and slight metallic herb. Later some cured tobacco. Large body is smooth, sticky, lightly tingly, and just dry enough. Very nice, but for the price ($5.50/single) there are several others more worthy. msante79 (778), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA May 30, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours inky brown that appears black in glass. Tan head that disapates to a tan ring. Aroma coffee and a hint of chocolate. Flavor is huge dose of coffee with hint hint of chocolate and burnt suger. If you are a hard core coffee drinker you will love this. If you do not like coffee you find this hard to drink. I rated it 3.7 originally but i let the rest of the bottle warm up and it really brung out a more balanced flavor. SSSteve (2042), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 30, 2008 completely black under a medium, creamy light brown head. aroma of raw coffee beans, and some chocolate. flavor is intensely coffee with some bitter dark chocolate. chalky palate. i like it. KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 30, 2008 Bottle shared with kleyland. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it sitting on the shelf at Green’s. Pours a dark black color. Thin, light brown head. The aroma is 100% coffee. Creamy body. Flavor is rich, roasted coffee. Just a delightfully delicious beer.
