Miam! oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland May 30, 2008 Bottled. Pitch black colour with brown mediumsized head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, some nuts and wood. Flavour is tobacco, coffee and roasted malts. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA May 29, 2008 Bottle, thanks to Glouglouburp. Pours black with a moderate creamy brown head, fantastic retention, sheet lace. Smells a bit like coffee grounds, a little dark malty sweetness as well. Tastes dark and roasty malty up front with the coffee flavors in the middle and a little dark fruit sweetness on the finish. Lingering bitter coffee. Full bodied, not syrupy, smooth and velvetty carbonation. BeerGestapo (725), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA May 29, 2008 (Canada) Coutesy of AFI96, Nice black color with a foamy tan head. The aroma is of burnt wood, liqorice , dark espresso. Very nice lacing, with a very drinkable coffee / chocolate and pepper notes. The 10% is well hidden here but the mouthfeel is very dry, and a bit overpowering. Very enjoyable !!!! afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA May 28, 2008 Shared this bottle with BeerGestapo and it wasn’t as impressive as I’d hoped. Pour is very dark, nearly all black with a lasting brown head. Smells of wood, burnt sugar, anise, and heavy espresso. The flavor wasn’t nearly as intense as the smell, a bit weak even. You are immediately greeted with roasted bitterness with some coffee notes which subsides to a smooth anise and coffee flavor. Finishes dry, leaving a frothyness on the tongue. It was very good but I think it is a bit overrated. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA May 28, 2008 12 oz. brown bottle. No freshness date seen. Twist off, cheap ass bottle.
Poured out a deep chocolate brown, with a thin but persistent mocha colored head. Aromas are of licorice, coffee, burnt sugar, roasted malt. Flavors are about the same as the aromas, with a shot of espresso added in. Thick mouthfeel, decent body.
Very warming, finished somewhat chalky. lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA May 28, 2008 Thick black pour that instantly hits you with coffee. First taste and every taste after is super smooth coffee with a lot of chocolate velvety that makes it go down incredibly easy. Even non coffee drinkers can enjoy this one. Very nice. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA May 27, 2008 Black in color with a carbonated head of beige bubbles. The nose was filled with coffee, chocolate and citric hops. This continued into a medium to full-bodied beer with lots of carbonation to keep it fresh. Well-balanced and I think I will prefer it in a year or so once the hops have faded a bit.
