spkldhenlvr24 (446), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 3, 2009 Bottle from Half-Time. I’ve been waiting and wanting to try this beer for a long time and I was not disappointed. Pours an obsidian black body with a medium sized tan head. Good vanilla, coffee, chocolate and roasted malty aroma. Creamy, full bodied mouthfeel. Coffee, mocha and bitter flavor. Again some great roasted coffee maltiness. Slight alcohol finish. Really great beer! ZTO (5), Alberta, Canada does not count Aug 3, 2009 wow! what a great beer.
poured at about 5 deg celcius from a bottle to a maudite glass, this beer holds the black. no light bleeding through. the head is a nice tan. thick and creamy. isn’t sustained too well, however. diminishes to thin rather quickly. aroma rapes your nostrils with coffee and black chocolate. malts have a strong toasted scent. tickles my nose. after the first sip, i feel a sweetness. the bitter dark chocolate is present, but not overwhelming. the aftertaste is quite prominent, however not hated. you can feel this sh*t warming your stomach! besides the gut warming awesomeness, no presence of alcohol. this beer is super! crash83 (7), Maryland, USA does not count Jul 31, 2009 Great coffee flavor, with a hint of chocolate. Sweet yet pleasantly bitter at the same time. Pure black. Even putting it up to a lamp doesn’t let light shine through. The only color comes from the thick, creamy, light brown head. The alcohol is only apparent by the affect on your senses, not by the taste. I’ll get this again for sure! strowlands8 (75), Ontario, Canada Jul 28, 2009 Really a great coffee flavour. I found it impossible not to take large gulps of this beer. Although coffee is the prominent flavour by far it is very interesting and complex and keeps you wanting more. A great beer. monkeychugg55 (208), Joliet, Illinois, USA Jul 28, 2009 Pours very dark, thick brown and sits black in the glass with a small dark tan head. The aroma is loads of coffee grounds, burnt roasted malt, a little bit of chocolate, and a hint of anise. The flavor starts out sweet and, once swallowed, fades into a deep coffee bitterness. Creamy but light on the palate, with more than usual carbonation. changeup45 (782), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 27, 2009 Bottle from Knightly. Roasted espresso, dark chocoloate and nutty aroma with faint alcohol fumes. Pours very dark, practically black, with a decent tan head with some patches sticking around. Big roasty coffee flavor, slightly creamy and with a bitter edge, like drinking a premium coffee with just a dash of half/half. Some bitter unsweetened chocolate follows but I can see why this is labeled an Imperial Coffee Stout. Very well-rounded. Excellent beer. fidel (884), Livermore, California, USA Jul 27, 2009 Poured very black, mostly cigar, little coffee, little dark chocolate, little dark fruits, little leather, little molasses.
