COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Chocolate roastiness with an almost chipotle aroma. Faint traces of coffee. Pours deep brown with frothy light brown head. A smooth chocolately flower flavor with a light finish. Velvet texture with low carbonation. A great stout that needs to be sampled. Smooth, rich and complex..

Black with tight, creamy, small brown head that diminishes but lasts. Great aroma; Big, could smell it the instant I opened it; coffee, chocolate, roasty malty, soft alcohol. Full body, soft and creamy, coffee finish with a little chocolate and super clean bitterness. Love how it develops on the palate. Just the right touch of alcohol and a bit of ashy and dryness but not drying. Really well put together and unique from well-made imperial stouts Ive had. I did not find it to be dominated by the coffee. Top notch in my book.

Strong aroma of coffee and alcohol. Additional aromas of vanilla and maybe a little malt. I could convince myself of a little chocolate and roasty nuts as well. Taste begins bitter malty, roasty, and coffee. Taste ends with a smooth bitterness that periodically squeezes at my taste buds. Calms down into a smooth chocolate/coffee aftertaste. (as well as a warming inside)

Bottle from IM wine in Fulton, MD. Strong coffee flavor. Less balanced than BCBCS or Speedway Stout.

Amazing. Simply amazing. Though the coffee definitely comes through, it is not overpowering. The nose is dominated by a bitter chocolate note but the beer is super smooth on the palate and balanced. Coffee is detectable but is countered by a sweetness reminiscent of vanilla. The beer is not highly carbonated, which allows the drinker to detect more in the beer than just coffee. The hops are present, as is the malt, and of course, the coffee! Low carbonation allows the beer fit into a more soft and silky category even though it is high gravity. Be careful with this beer, but enjoy it, because it might be the best stout this side of the Pacific.

October 2010. Bottle. Pours black with a large tan head. Roasted malt, coffee and licorice aromas. Flavors are creamy with coffee, chocolate and malt and completes with a bitter finish.

11.5 oz bottle from Supermarket Liquors. Black and thick with a creamy light brown head and patchy lacing. Rich roasted coffee, malty aroma. Similar flavor with light chocolate and light booze. Full robust body with a smooth creamy feel and a warming finish. Top fuckin notch.

Wonderful. Roast coffee and chocolate malts and barley in perfect balance. Beautiful appearance in the glass with great cling and a persistent head. Opaque with deep chocolate coloring. Clean and resolute on the palate and begging for a second, third, fourth.....wait, why not sip all day? ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2013/04/19- Pours an opaque black with a thin, creamy, khaki head that has good retention. Aroma is toasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Taste is dark chocolate up front with a creamy espresso, coffee, bitter finish. Mouthfeel is thick with a creamy carbonation and a very smooth finish. Very smooth and satisfying. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This brewery can do no wrong. Got a free mini pour at Prohibition. Espresso mouth with a twangy tongue of porter. Fantastic. First real day of spring on Canada so not sure this is how I want to drink the season in. But I will be back on a dark, stormy night.

A: Harsh chocolate and bitter coffee - I mean that in the best possible way App: Dark black, little lacing T: Bitter coffee and chocolate, some light hops in there. A tremendous imperial stout to begin with but the coffee really ramps the flavour up. P: A little thinner than expected, but oily with the right amount of carbonation. O: Best Imperial Stout I’ve had yet as well as the best coffee-flavoured brew. I am loving everything I’ve had from Dieu Du Ciel so far
