Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

It starts off like any other coffee stout: bitter, in-your-face, and very roasty. As it gets to the right temperature, decadent chocolate, subtle vanilla, and gentle oatmeal start to pop up and the coffee becomes increasingly obvious. The mouthfeel is solid, yet smooth, with minimal carbonation and a thick body. Minimal, but perceivable, booze that keeps things interesting. Very well done, all the elements are there in perfect harmony. Reminds me why I love coffee stouts so much.

after years of enjoying it, I thought is was time to finally revue it! As always, a lovely roast coffee nose with a touch of vanilla. The coffee profile is smoother in the taste profile, augmented by a creamy smoothness, solid malt background, a hint of bubble gum, some hops and dark berries. The blending is impeccable, the body rich and smooth, and the aftertaste true to the initial taste profile. Understated professional brewing.

Bottle, from end of 2007, 7 years old. Pours in deep black body with low persistent brown head. Aroma is just amazing right away, full of caramel, toffee, coffee, very smooth and easy. Taste has smooth dark chocolate caramel sweetness with well balanced coffee bitterness, not astringent at all. Light woody notes, coffee sweetness persists in the after taste. Amazing balance. Texture is soft, smooth, light oily, body is full, soft medium carbonation.

2 years in the cellar. Flavour really softens but good either way. One of the best in the style.

Black and opaque, medium tanned head. Aroma of coffee, bitter chocolate and roasted malts. Flavour of chocolate, a bit sweetish, roasty bitterness - very well balanced. Full body, fruity-roasty-sweet finish.

341ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a thick compact beige head. Aroma is lots of coffee, roasted malts, some liquor, some sweetness, light vanilla note. Taste is strong roastiness , ground coffee, bitter chocolate, some milky sweetness. Thick mouthfeel, full body, medium carbonation. Long lasting bitter finish with ground coffee again. Excellent.

Deep dark and complex. Cocoa, smooth despite the alcohol. Big with some fruit, maybe dark cherry. Absolutely delicious.

Bottle. Black pour, small brown head. Aroma of roasted coffee and milk chocolate. Taste of roasted coffee, dark cacao and bitter hops, dry bitter finish, but somehow also fruity with a little cherry. Warm glowing aftertaste. Solid coffee stout, real tasty.
