COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

live in japan,am presently in montreal, but this beer lovely puts me in europe...specifically paris and antwerp. the intial feeling is being in a paris 1990( paris) cafe that is next door to a belgian chocolatier;the taste is of good coffee and quality chocolate and part of the aroma mix is of cigarettes. my first bottle about 4 years ago i seem to remember as a little more creamy. very nice.

Almost opaque dark brown color with subtle carbonation activity. Creamy light brown 1.5 finger head lasting around 5 minutes and some good legs. Aromas and flavors of toffee, cocoa, coffee, herbal spices. Strong earthy roasted oak like bitter taste, slight caramel sweetness, and smoky cappuccino feel. Creamy milky medium body with some perfect carbonation. Strong and long finish ending with a highly spicy burnt mouth coat and thick toffee feel aftertaste. Overall : Warming good craft without the elegance. Overly spicy, slightly stale, missing some body, and not very accessible. Overhyped in my opinion.

On draught. Pours an ink black, with a small tan head that persists. Good lacing. Nose is dark roast malt, coffee, and cocoa. Taste follows the nose, with a creamy mouth feel and a very long finish. Perfectly balanced, and simply incredibly delicious.

Bottle. Black with a small beige head. Nice curtains/legs or whatever they’re called. Aroma has luxurious coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, slight alcohol and licorice. Taste has coffee, dark chocolate, cherry liquor chocolate praline, roasted malt and some bitterness. Full body, low soft carbonation, smooth and round mouth feel.

341ml bottle (thanks Mart). Deep brown color. Brief beige head, disappears. Coffee, sweet, beans, dusty in aroma. Roast, coffee, stale, hops and ashtray in taste. Hoppy ashtray in aftertaste. Intense roast and acidic hops, but nice this suits in this brew.
