COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Jet black color, zero head despite aggressive pour from bottle. Still lightly carbonated though. Rich fudge aroma with hazelnut. Flavor is well balanced blend of sweet chocolate and bitter coffee. The coffee eventually wins out leaving a light roasted, burned toast flavor. Maybe a note of alcohol in there as well but very well masked. Very drinkable stout, approaching the greats.

Sample in Alibi Room, Vancouver. Aroma had coffee, roasted / burned, caramel, chocolat. Pours black, lacing beige head. Only one of the rack that had a head actually. Taste had lot of roast, coffee, liquorice. Finish was light spicy, dry. Good beer to start my stay in Canada.

On tap at a few places during my trip, this popular jet black stout lives up to the hype. It has a velvety mouthfeel and a fantastic coffee flavor that is well balanced.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with solid tan head. The aroma is amazing--good coffee, burnt malt, some caramel and molasses. It just smells right, reminding of the first time I smelt Speedway Stout. The flavour has some sweet malt initially, caramel, but it’s swamped by hard roast coffee and roast malt bitterness. Loads of roast malt and roast coffee bitterness. The carbonation is excessive, and it lacks body. I find this very ashy and excessively dry--too much so to be a perfect coffee stout. But it is undeniably very good.

Smooth, versatile, not complicated, nice head, excellent mouthfeel, and good finish. I?d recommend this year round.

Draught @ barVolo, Dieu du Ciel tap take-over. Jet black, finely bubbled creamy head. Looks like a proper Irish coffee. Lil’ hard candy nose, yeast. Flavour smooth liquorice, dry herby finish. Boys know their stuff...

Half a pinky of tan foam. Dark brown body. Aromas of unsweetened cocoa, and perhaps even a wisp of alder smoked salmon. Thick chewy body. Flavors of black strap molasses and burnt rice from a pan where the water went dry. Not sure why they name it Péché (peach) because there’s no peach characteristic to it, nor does it say anything about peaches in the ingredients. Another great beer from one of the relatively unknown gems of the North American beer scene!

Le goût amer surprend bien le palais car il reste longtemps. La note de café est excellente et cette bière sent excessivement bon. Je la conseille au amateurs de stouts!

Honestly the first time I drank it, the sensation took me by surprise. Unimaginably smooth, along with a rich aroma and a taste locked in battle between sweet and bitter. Instant love.
