3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
This one may have suffered from the hype. A very good brew, a bit to fizzy for my tastes. It’s all about the coffee in this one. Alcohol is fairly evident for 9.5%. Doesnt hold a candle to the ’02 Speedway.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Black beer with delicate head which lingers on the sides of the glass. Some lacing is there too. Aroma has forest-like aromas, red berries, coffee and some metallic notes too? Some chocolate sweetness pops up after warming up. Taste is roasted with chocolate, espresso coffee, more bitter coffee and berries. Full body with low carbonation. A coffee infused IS with some berries, so this Mortal Sin was very good beer.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Opaque with a creme brulee surface, some lacing and a chocolate, dark roast coffee, liquor nose. Easy entry with a lightly carbonated, syrupy mouthfeel followed by a mocha, chocolate malt finish with some warming.

Bottle. Black body with tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, dried fruits, hints of chocolate and faint hints of coffee. Taste is roasted malts bitterness, some vanilla, some cocoa, some dark fruits and some coffee. Aftertaste is medium bitter with all the above mentioned tastes. Very nice one.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
The pour is dark brown like used motor oil and looks glossy black in the glass. On top of this dark opaque liquid sits a two finger tall dark tan head. The frothy foam is slow fading but keeps a small cap of foam for the duration of the session. It also makes nice lacing on the glass. The aroma is full of dark roasted and toasted malt character with notes of coffee, dark toasted bread and some boozy alcohol. I also pick up lighter notes like chocolate, earthy leather, caramel and molasses. Its flavor profile has just as much complexity as its aroma. There is a ton of toasted bread and grain with dark roasted coffee flavor. I get sweet bready and caramel notes with bitter coffee and chocolate. Hops are not really popping out to me but I’m sure they are adding to the bitter flavors. As it warms I get some vanilla and grainy booze notes moving in. It finishes with a mellow booze bittersweet character slow fading from the tongue. The texture is slick and smooth with soft carbonation.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
A coffee stout done great. Pours pure black with a beautiful crema head. Aroma is of strong coffee, chocolate, and sour milk. Tastes of strong coffee, dark chocolate, chocolate milk, roasted malts, and hides its booze very well. Has a heavy body with low carbonation and an oily texture. The booziness adds a warmth, yet is still so smooth for how strong it is. Absolutely beautiful this beer be.

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
The color of this beer is a solid jet black, and it pours with a large tan head that fades slowly. The aroma is full of coffee beans with undercurrents of roasted and caramel malts; the taste is a lustrous blend of mild malt bitterness with heavy coffee flavor, but it’s mellowed out by the mild umami and touch of sourness. The aftertaste is purely coffee flavor because the bitterness only continues to mellow, and the palate fuses an oily texture, medium body, and a soft carbonation. Overall, this beer is a very, very amazing--if not the best--coffee stout.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black with a one-finger tan head. Nice aromas of coffee, vanilla, caramel, roasted malt and cocoa. Taste follows the nose. Loads of coffee in the foreground. This is coupled with cocoa and vanilla and into the roasted malt. Hints of burnt toast. Fairly bold hop profile as well. A nice harmony of bitter and sweet make their way into a lively finish. On the higher side of carbonation for a stout of this size, making the body feel a tad bit thin. Slightly oily, but stays crisp. Really nice stout that keeps a great balance.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle poured into a oversized snifter. Jet black pour with a tiny head that quickly settles and leaves tan lacings. Nose has loads of ground coffee, some chocolate and vanilla. Taste follows the nose with some soy sauce and medium bitterness. Pretty nice!
