Quick fizzing when poured, then the head completely disappears leaving no lacing on the glass. Dark brown black color. Smells strong of coffee, prunes, chocolate. A very smooth coffee taste with some heat. The burnt coffee taste helps cover the alcohol..alittle. But you can still taste the alcohol. Warming. Overall enjoyable, and for the tiny price tag it is a steal!

Same batch as below, Reviewed 08APR12
Pours black with a sheet of dark tan foam and no lace. Smells of chocolate, coffee, molasses and licorice. Smell is sweet, but the coffee remains and helps to balance. A little much licorice for me in the nose. Bitter flavor with coffee and bitter chocolate flavors and a little bit of wood. Flavor is okay. The body is thin, thin, thin; moderate carb and a semi wet finish, which is bitter. This beer does not hold up well IMO. Bitter and thin with a deceptively sweet nose. Fresh or bust (although I don’t know how fresh my original bottles are...) 3/4/3.5/2/3.5

A: Pours a deep bark brown and nearly black ale. When I can get hints of light, beer is a perfect brown. 1-2 fingers of latte head dissipates in a minute or so leaving a thin, broken sheet of the same. Nearly sheet like lacing. Good looker.
S: Coffee, and good coffee. Beautiful olive tones over a sweet cocoa, date and fig undertone layer. I don’t know how fresh this is, guessing not that fresh as the beer has several price stickers on it. Man, awesome nose.
T: Good roasty flavors. Nearly oaky tones, great licorice flavors, coffee bitterness. Bitter cocoa bean flavors. Good resiny hops characteristics remain in the beers life. Good, not great, but good.
M: Thick, chunky and sticky. Tacks my cheeks to my teeth and has low carbonation. Good feel.
O: well crafted beer, I wish I new the age on this to determine how this might develop further. That takes a large chunk out of the overall category for me. 4.5/4.5/4/4/3.5~4.03

My 1,800 rating. A black body with a brown head. Aroma had a heavy roasted malt presence upfront. A great mix of coffee and dark chocolate balanced it out. Mild notes of licorice and leather rounded it out. Flavor had an excellent roasted quality. Coffee flavor was strong but restrained it did not over power the subtle sweetness. A nice dry lingering finish. Alcohol was well hidden. Moderate mouth feel.

Bottle, thanks Paul or maybe Mike (forgot who sent this sorry). Black with tan head. Aroma of coffee, little chocolate and licorice. Coffee is a bit more subdued in the taste but still there, roasty coffee, chocolate and licorice. Smooth, sweet and bitter. Well balanced, does the job

341ml poured into Lawson’s snifter. Jet black minimal mocha head. Smell is coffee grounds, chocolate, toasty malt. Taste is wonderful. Rich chocloate, day old coffee, molasses. A tad sweet, but balanced with a bit of bitterness. Fantastic.

Mmmm. One of the best aromas I’ve ever come across - chocolate, roasty, w/ a slight hint of fruit exquisite! Deep dark pour w/ a thin tan head that leaves little lacing. The mouthfeel is velvety smooth! The taste is primarily of roast but it’s balanced out perfectly by the chocolate notes & doesn’t leave any bitterness lingering. Extremely well done!

Massive coffee nose with a hint of vanilla perhaps. Jet black with brown minimal head, really deep aroma. huge coffee flavour with a smooth, very slightly silky texture. So dark and yet not thick, which works in this case.

From the 330 ml. bottle. The pour is rich black with a small but long lasting beige head. The aroma is subtle overall but I am getting a good dose of chocolate malts, dark malts, earthy hops, and coffee grinds. The body is medium. The taste also exhibits a solid dark malt and coffee character with a moderate bitterness that is not boozy in the least considering it is over 9% ABV. You don’t know it.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter a thick black motor oil with a thick tan head
Aroma of dark chocolate & coffee beans.
Taste is straight up a sweet start of chocolate fruit then into roasted coffee. The finish is a nice bitterness like drinking a strong cup of coffee.
Love the depth of this brew for the palate so thick!
Overall this quickly became my favorite a Russian Imperial Coffee Stout. Extremely well done. Happy to have a second bottle which I will lay down for next year. YUM YUM!

Tailgate bottle share with EricTeusink. Always excited to try a top 100 beer. Very tasty. Pour is thick black with nice dark tan thick head. Big coffee flavors dominate. In fact, this may be the most heavily coffeed brews I’ve had. Still there is some nice dark and sweet chocolate notes with a lingering bitter coffee finish. Dig it.
