COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

12oz bottle courtesy of tobelerone, thanks man! Dark black, decent head that has a slight rim to it around the glass. First whiff was chocolate, subsequent aromas were all coffee, nice. The taste was strong coffee, stout, sweet chocolate, nice stuff here. I can;t believe I haven’t drank this beer before, definitely one of the better coffee imperial stouts that I have had. Yields a huge, very stable light brown head, while the beers color pours a completely black color. The amount of coffee used in this beer has to be immense, as the aromas yield an utmost profound coffee appearance, which wouldn’t need the help of any other ingredients to compose a convincing nose. The coffee though gets perfectly balanced by scorched earth and a huge amount of peated, wooden earth. Underneath, there is a well build layer of dark-chocolate, together with a whiff of coffee, coating up the aromas perfectly well. Has a fantastic, fuller mouthfeel, due to the beers low carbonation and earth supported creaminess, perfectly showcasing the profound coffee flavor. Tastes of soft whipped-cream, balancing warming, oaky malts, amped up by roasted wood and charred toast. As coffee enters the palate, it instantly defines the whole taste, while the beers foundation still adds up to the taste in all its facetts. Fresh toasted, crushed toffee beans offer up a pleasant, bitter roastiness, together with flowery cocoa powered bakers chocolate. Finishes with silk milk chocolate, and a supportive coffee bitterness, which creates an intense ending, while also allowing subtle flavors of oak, toffee, fudge, coal and chimney fire to remain detectable. This beer is a real treat, exhibiting a challenging depth of flavors, together with a fantastic mouthfeel. Everything comes incredibly well together, resulting in a simply perfect coffee stout.

Flaska, ebest SB.

341ml bottle from Systembolaget. Black with a creamy tan head. Wow! Large and intense coffee and espresso bean aroma,in the background there are some oak and sweet rosted malt. Thick, creamy mouthfeel, full body. The taste is rich in coffee and roasted coffee, espresso, creamy milk chocolate, roasted malt and slightly smoky. Long deep aftertaste of coffee and dark chocolate bitterness.

Draught @ the brewpub. Pours cloudy very dark brown with small tan head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel, with notes of roast and chocolate. Bitter, roasty flavour with sweet notes of chocolate, caramel malt and yeast. Hints of liquorice. Roasty aftertaste. Warming alcohol presence. Nice. Very nice.

Pours black with a very big (for the style), tan head. Loads of coffee and roasted malts on the nose. Ground pepper, bay leaf, dark chocolate and coffee grounds. The palate is medium bodied, not every thick or oily, balanced with only slight hints of sweetness and acidity, the bitterness however is authoritative and leads a fairly long finish. Very nice. Not 100 points in my book, but certainly very tasty.

Bottle from Le Marche des Brasseurs in Hull. Last night in Ottawa summer 2015. Opaque black pour with minimal tan head (very slight carbonation). Aroma is burnt sugar, coffee, vanilla, wood. Yum. Taste is similar - big boozy bite to start. Very bitter at first, then, again, caramel, coffee, vanilla, booze. Lasting burn. Rich smooth palate. Great imperial stout.

Ruikt naar koffie, en ik lust geen kofie ! Mooie vette schuimkraag. Dit is kwaliteit ! Zoet bitter koffie smaak. Apart. Lijkt op Yeti met koffie nuance ?

Pitch black with just a little fine tan head. Nose is vanilla, charcoal, light smoked meat, light roast coffee, a little dark fruit. Flavor is coffee, dark fruits (plum, raisin), a little burnt toast, a little smoked meat. Bitter roasted malt finish, quite dry. Heavy thick body with prickly carbonation. Dark and decadent, pretty tasty.

Poured from a bottle stashed away. Served in a tulip glass. Aroma: full of roasty coffee with chocolate notes. Appearance: Dark brown, almost black. Thin, short-lived head. Taste: phenomenal. Wonderful balance of roasty, coffee flavors with hints of chocolate, caramel, and some dark fruit. Beautifully balanced. Palate: rolls over the tongue with a thick, oily grace Overall: outstanding beer. Decadent, devastating mouthfeel, aroma, and flavor make this a beer worthy of its handle, "mortal sin."
