COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Draft at brewpub. Black color, thick brown head, coffee aroma. This is the imperial coffee stout! The robust coffee flavor is heightened and sweetened by the over abundant presence of alcohol. Truly a great beer, just a tad to high alcohol for my taste.

Pitch black pour with a light head. The aromas are fantastic. Coffee, smoke, vanilla, and coconut. Tingly first sip with licorice, bitter chocolate, espresso, slight hops and roast. Finish is super long and bitter. Great stuff.

pours dark oily brown black with tiny tan head. Nose is rich earthy roast coffee, wet dirt, bitter dark chocolate. Taste is rich bitter baker’s chocolate, wet coffee grounds, hints of smoky ash and soot, touch of dark fruits. Finish is creamy roasty coffee, dark chocolate, ashy cocoa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle purchased from Capone’s. The beer pours a dark black, with no light passing whatsoever. The half inch of beige head settles over a minute or two to a thin sheet of single bubbles across the meniscus, and sparse lacing is left on the glass. Aroma is muted, possibly due to a colder serving temperature. Roasted cacao, soft coffee complexity, bitter and smoky malts. Flavor is coffee upfront, which serves as a solid backbone for a subtle creamy sweetness. Active carbonation brings all flavor aspects together; roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, slight nutty complexity, with a bittersweet finish. Full bodied, and a creamy/oily mouthfeel. Really delicious and highly recommended.

Great balance in taste. A smooth non bitter coffee finish. Wonderful aroma. The abv is slighlty high for my style but non the less great for this beer.

Dark brown, opaque, lasting head, very lacy. Full body, smooth, definite but not extreme alcohol heat, very long palate, delicious finish . Bitter but unhesitantly counterbalanced by sweetness, Beautiful, highest quality coffee flavor. Great beer, pity my order of beers in the flight was changed and I tasted it after the Dogfish Head 120" ipa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours jet black with a lively mocha head. Aromas of coffee with definite undertones of mocha chocolate. Medium mouth feel. Tastes of burnt chocolate malts with a hint of brown sugar. Overall this is too heavy and too high in abv to ever be a session beer but as a one shot sipper or a dessert beer with cheesecake, it is quite amazing.

2009 aged bottle from the porter. Pours a dark opaque black work tan colored head. Aroma of coffee. Taste of intense coffee that lingers pleasantly with chocolate and roasted malts.
