Pours a pure black. Medium tan head with good retention. Strong aroma of coffee, light smoke and earthiness. Flavor is strong black coffee, leather and hint of vanilla/toffee sweetness. Slightly slick mouthfeel. The strength of the coffee flavor could be a turnoff if you’re not into coffee. But if that’s your thing, it’s excellent.

Pours jet black into snifter with generous foamy head. Aroma is coffee beans and alcohol. Body is thick and very heavy - almost a milkshake. This bottle might have had a hint of oxidation, which gave a metallic taste and left the rest a little watery. Decent coffee flavor with the right amount of bitterness. Really good with the potential to be great.

Top

There’s certainly a lot of religious tension in the dark world of Imperial Stouts. Even More Jesus, Big Bad Baptist, Bible Belt, etc. It’s perfectly natural that Peche Mortel take its place among the fallen. It’s the drink of the bitter souls who lust for the blackened grain. Peche Mortel pours opaque with light brown foam. Smells like espresso, dark fruit, cocoa, and booze. Bold, bitter coffee and charred grain tastes. Some sweeter undercurrents of chocolate and subtle cream. Despite the high level of bitterness, this is ridiculously drinkable for an Imperial Stout. Full-bodied and dry, yet it’s smooth and far from being too warm or heavy. The best of sins are always inviting.

Pitch black color with foam ring. Thick alcoholic and intense coffee flavor with smokey notes (whisky barrel associations). Mild and coffee roasty taste with a vanilla sweetness and a very balanced overall impression. Sweet roasty finish and sweet aftertaste. Very smooth and pleasant beer (even though I still don’t like coffee).

Bottle, courtesy of SinH4. Dry dusty coffee, very intense. Pure. Slight sweetness on the tongue, but mostly bitter. Dry. High drinkability too. There is not much more to say except that everythings with this beer just works. Incredible.

Bottle, thanks sneakychi. Aroma is espresso powder, roasted malts, ashes. Taste is fresh espresso, ashes, full-bodied, but surprisingly light. Very dry, minerally finish. Medium carbonation. Excellent Coffee Imperial Stout. It’s not too complex, but I like the dry espresso flavours and it just works.

Bottle@O’Haras, Tampere, Finland. Balanced, but not so bold taste of coffee, roasted malts and chocolate. BD: 12/2015 smoothes the bitterness of coffee, good. Medium/strong body with low carbonation. Overall, top quality IS with a bit light body.
