COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Well, first off, thanks be to Edward (Brooklynboy) for grabbing this thing before I could get my hands on it. Acutally, I have a point to make here. First, I dont really get to drink much anymore and it seems that Edward has pretty much given me a "scholarship" on fine beers recently by providing just about anything under the sun. So, when I found out that this bad boy was going to be in the Chicagoland area I quickly did everything I could to get on as many waiting lists as possible with the hopes that I would get this thing before Edward and share it with him for once. Well, It didnt really work out that way. He got to it first and was great enough to share it with me. So, thanks again. WOW.

So now onto the rating. First off there was quite a bit of carbonation in this thing but it was not noticable in the actual tasting. The bottle pretty much began to pour out onto the table before we could get it into the glass. Thick and foamy tan head. Immediately the nose was very present from quite a distance. The nose was very kinetic, much like one of the New Glarus fruit beers, and moved quickly around the room. Malts, chocolate, and oh yeah, did I mention coffee? Wow was there coffee in this thing. The body was black a night, no light got through this bad boy. THe Taste was full of coffee and wow, it really was just like a fresh espresso. Man was this stuff good. And trust me, one of the best beers I have ever had, not just for the flavour and such, but also because of the company.

Tap @ CBC. Deep brown color with no head. The nose is light bitter chocolate and roasted malts, booze-soaked wood. The taste is chocolate espresso beans, cherry liqueur, Very sweet and heavy. Brown sugar. The body’s full, plenty of sugar (diiiiabeetus!) and booze. Soft, viscous and oily. Very nice, though a bit flabby.

Strong coffee smell, almost a bit of bourbon or dark chocolate. All follow in the taste, extremely dark, rich and strong. Almost impossible to stop drinking, one of the best stouts out there. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Pours a jet black body with a medium creamy beige head. Nose is intense mocha/filter coffee tones with powdery chocolate hints. Nice, but I’d like a bit more complexity. Taste is mocha, filter coffee, dark chocolate and hints of nougat. Velvety mouthfeel which feels occasionally disrupted by bursts of carbonation. Strange. A very nice coffee-based imp stout, but I do feel it’s a bit overrated.

En riktig höjdare. Intensiv, kraftig och fyllig smak av framförallt kaffe och då menar jag kaffe på riktigt. Len och krämig och med en balanserad eftersmak. En liten efterrättspärla till stout.
