UPDATED: OCT 29, 2007 Re-Rate 09-07. Cask @ Cask Days 2007. Black body with a small creamy tan head. Huge aroma of spent coffee grounds (7+) Very bitter roast coffee flavour, coffee is dramatically dominant. Creamy palate. 7+/4/6-7/4/14 - 3.7

Re-Rate 08-05 Bottle rated July 2006. Black body yields a good sized tan head with a relatively vigorous pour. Massive aroma of dry coffee with tiny hints of woody vanilla. Very very dry flavour, with very prominent coffee, and lingering roasty malt. Smooth medium palate is quite nice but noticeably lacks the nitrogen aided transcendence of the draft version. Very nice, but as noted before, I miss the chocolate of my first encounter. 8/4/7/4/15 - 3.8

Re-Rate RBSG 2005. Draft, 2005 vintage I believe. Black body pours a lovely cascade, with a big billowy beige head that persists forever. Gorgeous thickness and lacing coats the glass – when OKBeer transferred his to a tulip glass the neglected glass remained coated for some time! Flavour is coffee dominant with a healthy does of the roasty coffee bitterness that I was glad was muted in my previous sample. Roast overshadows that creamy chocolate I had so loved previously. Full creamy body coats the palate and the glass like paint. I am torn because as glorious as this sample was it failed to delight as much as the aged version I had prior. 7-8/4-5/7-8/5/17-18

Original Rating 2002 vintage Draft. Tasted at DDC June 4th, 2004. Pitch black body with luxuriously creamy tan head which gives forth a nutty chocolatey aroma. Black velvet rolls across the palate giving glimpses of coffee roastiness amidst a prevalent mocha character. I’m told it uses Fair Trade coffee which only serves to further my appreciation for this beer. 8/5/9/5/18 - 4.5
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 jackl (756) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 1, 2012
Tap @ CBC. Deep brown color with no head. The nose is light bitter chocolate and roasted malts, booze-soaked wood. The taste is chocolate espresso beans, cherry liqueur, Very sweet and heavy. Brown sugar. The body’s full, plenty of sugar (diiiiabeetus!) and booze. Soft, viscous and oily. Very nice, though a bit flabby.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 BHeart (21) - - MAY 26, 2012
Strong coffee smell, almost a bit of bourbon or dark chocolate. All follow in the taste, extremely dark, rich and strong. Almost impossible to stop drinking, one of the best stouts out there.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ClubGonzo (1979) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 25, 2012
On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Pours a jet black body with a medium creamy beige head. Nose is intense mocha/filter coffee tones with powdery chocolate hints. Nice, but I’d like a bit more complexity. Taste is mocha, filter coffee, dark chocolate and hints of nougat. Velvety mouthfeel which feels occasionally disrupted by bursts of carbonation. Strange. A very nice coffee-based imp stout, but I do feel it’s a bit overrated.

En riktig höjdare. Intensiv, kraftig och fyllig smak av framförallt kaffe och då menar jag kaffe på riktigt. Len och krämig och med en balanserad eftersmak. En liten efterrättspärla till stout.
